To thrive as a FlutterFlow Developer, you need a solid understanding of app design principles, experience with no-code/low-code platforms, and familiarity with Flutter or Dart basics. Proficiency with the FlutterFlow platform, integration of APIs, and knowledge of deployment processes are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with clients and swiftly address project challenges. These skills ensure efficient app development, high-quality user experiences, and successful project delivery in a competitive environment.

What are some common challenges faced by developers working with Flutter Flow, and how can they be overcome?

Developers working with Flutter Flow may encounter challenges such as integrating custom code beyond the platform's default widgets, managing state in complex applications, and ensuring seamless collaboration between designers and developers. To overcome these issues, it's helpful to leverage Flutter Flow's custom code features, utilize best practices for state management, and maintain clear communication within the team. Additionally, staying updated with platform documentation and participating in the Flutter Flow community can provide valuable support and solutions.

What is a Flutter Flow developer?

A Flutter Flow developer is a professional who uses the FlutterFlow platform to design, build, and deploy mobile applications visually without extensive hand-coding. FlutterFlow is a low-code development tool that allows users to create cross-platform apps for both iOS and Android using a drag-and-drop interface. Developers can integrate custom code, APIs, and advanced features, making it a versatile solution for rapid app development. These developers often work with businesses or startups to quickly prototype and launch mobile apps.

Job description

Join Afero and change the world, a gazillion connections at a time!

Our vision is to make all the world's devices really smart and truly secure, through innovation and scale.
Come make it happen!

Afero is the leading PaaS for IoT manufacturers and brands, enabling connected devices to be both smart and secure. Afero built its foundation on security, data privacy, simplicity and ease of use. Today, Afero technology powers millions of devices across more than 1,000 SKUs from 50+ manufacturers, including well known brands like Defiant, Hampton Bay and EcoSmart. Afero has more than 123 patents, one of the largest IoT patent portfolios globally, and was named an 2024 IoT Breakthrough Winner for IoT Security Platform of the Year. Afero is driven by a team of world-class executives and veterans in mobile, hardware, security, consumer and cloud, leveraging experience from Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Netflix, Disney, Roku and Danger. Afero provides a fantastic opportunity to explore and to expand your expertise while driving product innovation into exciting new ecosystems. To learn more, visit www.afero.io.

Why you'll want to work with us

For a small team, Afero engineers collectively do a little bit of everything-from cloud applications and infrastructure to mobile development on multiple platforms, firmware on a wide range of devices, to board-level hardware design and implementation of secure wireless devices. If you enjoy deep dives into assorted technology stacks to understand end-to-end system workflows, can adapt past experiences to new solutions, and can communicate technical ideas effectively, Afero is a fantastic opportunity to explore and to expand your expertise.

What we're looking for

We're building the mobile experience for Afero's Hubspace smart home product line. As a Senior Software Engineer on the mobile team, you'll work across the full mobile stack. From Flutter UI down to native platform code and help shape the architecture of a production app used by millions of customers.

You'll work on real problems: connected device onboarding over BLE, real-time device control, GraphQL API integration, and an ongoing migration from Redux to a Provider-based architecture. This is not a greenfield role, you'll inherit a mature codebase and be expected to improve it.

We want people with passion to build best in class technology, who will drive the evolution and scale of Afero's platform. The range of disciplines and experience represented at Afero is broad and deep, and everyone on the team contributes meaningfully to our culture and our growth.  We're looking for builders and problem solvers who will bring perspective and skills to support our success, people with enthusiasm for digging into complexity, creating solutions, and driving effectiveness in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain the Flutter application across iOS and Android, including native platform channel integrations in Swift and Kotlin
  • Design and implement shared business logic using Kotlin Multiplatform, reducing duplication between platforms
  • Integrate and evolve GraphQL APIs, working closely with backend teams on schema design and query optimization
  • Participate in architectural decisions, including the ongoing migration from Redux to ChangeNotifier/Provider
  • Own features end-to-end: from API contract through UI, including test coverage
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and contribute to code review culture
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of mobile software engineering experience
  • Strong Flutter/Dart - you've shipped a production Flutter app and understand its rendering model, state management trade-offs, and platform channel boundaries
  • Native iOS (Swift), native Android (Kotlin) and you can write platform-specific code when Flutter alone isn't enough
  • Kotlin Multiplatform; experience building or consuming shared KMP modules
  • GraphQL; client-side experience with queries, mutations, subscriptions, and caching strategies
  • Comfort working in an IoT or connected hardware context is a strong plus (BLE, device state synchronization, real-time data)
  • Collaborative and direct; this team moves fast and expects engineers to push back when something is wrong
  • This role is a hybrid position; candidates must be able to come into the Los Altos, CA office at least three days per week
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Nice to have
  • Experience with Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics, Messaging, Remote Config)
  • Familiarity with Redux or similar unidirectional data flow patterns
  • Background in smart home, embedded, or hardware-adjacent products
$205,000 - $240,000 a year
The US base salary range for this full-time position is expected to be $205,000 to $240,000. Actual pay is determined by various factors, including work location, job-related skills and experience, relevant education, training or certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At Afero, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions depend on each case's facts and circumstances. This range reflects base salary only; Afero also offers competitive benefits and equity compensation not included in these numbers.
