Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and hands-on Horticulturist to oversee and maintain a diverse hobby farm and estate garden that includes fruit trees, vegetable gardens, ornamental flowers, and landscaped grounds. The ideal candidate will have strong horticultural knowledge, experience growing edible crops and ornamental plants, and a genuine enthusiasm for sustainable gardening and property beautification.

This position is responsible for planning, planting, cultivating, harvesting, and maintaining a productive and visually appealing agricultural and garden environment while ensuring the health and vitality of all plant materials.

Key ResponsibilitiesGarden & Crop Management
  • Plan, plant, cultivate, and harvest seasonal vegetables, herbs, and specialty crops.
  • Maintain fruit trees, berry bushes, vineyards, and other edible plantings.
  • Monitor plant health and implement integrated pest management strategies.
  • Prepare soil, amend growing areas, and manage composting programs.
  • Develop crop rotation and succession planting schedules to maximize yields.
Flower & Ornamental Gardens
  • Design, install, and maintain annual and perennial flower beds.
  • Select and source appropriate plants, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
  • Prune, deadhead, fertilize, and maintain ornamental plantings.
  • Develop seasonal color programs and garden enhancements.
Landscape & Property Maintenance
  • Maintain landscaped areas, pathways, garden structures, and irrigation systems.
  • Monitor watering schedules and irrigation performance.
  • Assist with greenhouse operations, propagation, and nursery management as needed.
  • Coordinate with landscape contractors and specialty vendors when required.
Harvesting & Production
  • Harvest fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers at peak quality.
  • Manage storage and preservation of harvested products.
  • Maintain records of planting schedules, harvest yields, and garden performance.
  • Assist in planning farm-to-table initiatives and seasonal produce utilization.
Qualifications
  • Degree or certification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Botany, Landscape Management, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in horticulture, market gardening, estate gardening, farming, or related work.
  • Knowledge of fruit tree care, vegetable production, flower cultivation, and soil management.
  • Experience with irrigation systems, greenhouse operations, and plant propagation preferred.
  • Understanding of organic and sustainable growing practices.
  • Ability to identify plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
