Job Title: Medical Assistant
Job Description

The Medical Assistant provides high-quality, team-based patient care in a pediatric primary care clinic under the direct supervision of a clinician. This role combines clinical and administrative responsibilities to support health and wellness in a safe, friendly environment. The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with clinicians and care management teams to assess patients, support chronic disease management, and assist with examinations and treatments, while performing a full range of laboratory testing and phlebotomy procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver team-based patient care under the direct supervision of a clinician in a pediatric primary care setting.
  • Support clinicians and care management teams in assessing patients, maintaining chronic disease management, and assisting with examinations and treatments.
  • Perform all laboratory testing procedures as assigned, ensuring accuracy, quality, and proper documentation.
  • Conduct phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks, in a safe and compassionate manner.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, with emphasis on performing manual vitals when needed.
  • Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) systems to accurately enter, update, and maintain patient information.
  • Assist with triage activities, including gathering patient histories, documenting symptoms, and preparing patients for clinician evaluation.
  • Apply medical terminology appropriately when communicating with clinicians, care teams, and documenting in the EMR.
  • Support both clinical and administrative functions to promote efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience.
  • Coordinate with the care team to support health promotion and wellness initiatives for the patient population.
  • Follow established protocols for pediatric care, laboratory safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by floating to other clinic sites when requested, while maintaining consistent quality of care.
  • Maintain a professional, friendly, and supportive demeanor with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Adapt to changing work demands, schedules, and clinic needs while maintaining high standards of performance.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant diploma or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or a minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience with "Medical Assistant" in the job title.
  • Phlebotomy experience, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
  • Ability to obtain and document vital signs; manual vital sign measurement preferred.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Active driver's license.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical assisting practices.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment, preferably in medical assisting.
  • Ability to support triage processes in a clinical setting.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team-based care environment.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing work environments and clinic needs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credentials are highly valued.
  • Experience working in pediatric healthcare settings.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Creole is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinic.

Work Environment

This role is 100% onsite in a pediatric primary care clinic located in Coconut Creek. The schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with every other Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., totaling approximately 46.5 hours per week. The clinic environment is team-oriented, patient-focused, and designed to be safe, friendly, and supportive for children and their families. The Medical Assistant works closely with clinicians, care management teams, and other support staff, using electronic medical records (EMR) and standard clinical equipment for vital signs, phlebotomy, and laboratory testing. The role may require occasional floating to other clinic sites, with mileage reimbursement and a gas card provided when floating is requested. Professional clinical attire appropriate for a pediatric primary care setting is expected.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40000.00 - $41000.00/yr.
