Job description

Delta's Flight Operations Project Development Office (PDO) is seeking an individual who is passionate about advancing technology applications and initiatives in support of 17,000+ pilots. The team evaluates current work processes to identify and recommend business opportunities.  Additionally, the team works on technology solutions that align with senior leadership's strategy to continuously improve the line pilot experience.

Within the Flight Ops Crew Technology department, the Co-op team works within the Project Development Office (PDO) with two full-time employees. The purpose of the PDO is to create value by assisting Flight Ops stakeholders to achieve business goals and ideate new processes, resulting in efficiency gains. We do this by helping them navigate the technology development process through the agile ecosystem, spanning from intake to approval to execution. Additionally, we provide Internal Consulting services that focus on cost savings and process improvements.  Another responsibility for the PDO is Change Management, a framework in Flight Ops to enhance the visibility of change efforts, and to enable tracking and reporting. This position is a Consultant-type role which will focus primarily on Internal Consulting. 

        The Co-op will work at Delta's World Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a paid position, including additional privileges such as standby travel anywhere in the Delta system while off duty.

        The team currently operates on a hybrid schedule (i.e., in-person for 4 days on campus with one day each week working virtually).

        The Co-op will have exposure to other departments within Flight Operations, including but not limited to: Flight Training, Flight Standards, Flying Operations, Line Operations, Crew Resources & Scheduling, Pilot Hiring & Development, and Simulator Support...in order to learn about Flight Operations, the industry and gain valuable life experience. 

        The position requires three alternating semesters of full-time work at Delta with full-time study (1 semester will be summer).

Note: This position does not include a housing stipend.

Co-op Key Responsibilities

        Lead end-to-end ideation efforts, translating loosely defined stakeholder challenges into clearly scoped problem statements and solution hypotheses

        Lead cross-functional coordination to ensure solutions are effectively implemented within operational environments

  • Participate in team activities that aim to holistically develop Co-ops
  • Work with stakeholders in a consultant type role
  • Partner with multiple divisional stakeholders to define process improvement opportunities, assist with development and maturation of recommended solutions
  • Reinforce Delta's global innovation initiative through applications of creative design concepts to evolve stakeholder approaches to problem and solution design
  • Develop and implement feedback analysis using basic survey and statistics methodologies
  • Assist project leaders on technology programs with external vendors and Information Technology teams to identify and troubleshoot issues, develop solutions, and implement resolutions in a timely manner to minimize impact to the operation.  Primary software utilized: Power BI, Excel, Smartsheet
