Job description

Mission Operations Support Engineer

The Mission Operations Support Engineer aids the mission operations team through maintenance of operational tools, mission support infrastructure, configuration management, documentation management, and integrated test activities. This position works closely with Mission Operations Engineers, Software Engineers, and Systems Engineers to ensure mission operations environments remain functional, documented, and ready for testing, simulations, and flight operations.

We are seeking an engineer or skilled individual with related experience to provide cross-functional support for our upcoming IM3, IM 4, and future missions. Ideal candidates will have previous experience in Mission Operations, Real-Time Flight Operations, Systems Engineering, IT Network Operations, IT Helpdesk, or related disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure, maintain, and validate mission operations consoles and operator workstations.
  • Support deployment and maintenance of mission operations software environments.
  • Assist in preparation and execution of mission simulations, rehearsals, and integrated testing activities.
  • Monitor operational systems, report, and resolve discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Maintain mission operations repositories using Git.
  • Support version control, branch management, and release activities.
  • Maintain configuration-controlled mission products, procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Ensure operational artifacts are properly tracked and baselined.
  • Maintain and organize mission operations documentation within Confluence.
  • Create, update, and track engineering tasks, defects, and action items within Jira.
  • Support development and maintenance of operational procedures, checklists, timelines, and test documentation.
  • Assist with generation of test reports and operational readiness products.
  • Execute testing procedures for mission operations systems and supporting ground infrastructure.
  • Document test results and support defect investigation efforts.
  • Assist senior engineers with integrated system testing and mission readiness activities.
  • Support regression testing and verification of software updates.
  • Support and maintain custom in-house mission operations software tools.

Required:

  • 2-5 years work experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline. Or 5-10 years work experience in mission operations support, software testing, systems engineering, IT Helpdesk, IT Network Operations, or related technical field.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line environments.
  • Basic scripting experience using Python or similar languages.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with spacecraft operations or ground systems.
  • Exposure to Command and Control systems.
  • Experience supporting test execution or mission operations environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure and operational monitoring tools.
  • Experience with mission simulations or operational readiness activities.
  • Experience using documentation and collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, and Git.
  • Strong programming skills.
