Job Summary

The GSE Mechanic is responsible for the full range of maintenance tasks involving ground equipment, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, disassembly, repair, and installation. This role ensures all work meets quality standards, often certifying mechanical releases, while adhering to company policies and working independently or under guidance from leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, replace, test, and reassemble ground equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance. 
  • Install, service, fabricate, and tow equipment in service or undergoing modification.
  • Certify quality of workmanship, including signing off on field work mechanical releases.
  • Handle parts and supply logistics, including ordering, receiving, inventorying, and disbursing materials.
  • Operate vehicles up to 10 tons (or up to 40 tons in select roles) safely in congested areas.
  • Work with color-coded wiring and components, requiring accurate color differentiation.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools in maintenance tasks.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals; complete maintenance forms and records clearly and accurately.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while following company procedures and instructions.

**This job is covered by a collective bargaining agreement of the Transport Workers Union (TWU), a labor union which requires joining the TWU and paying union dues.** 

Minimum Requirements
  • HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Valid driver's license, ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e., Friday, Saturday, Sunday), holidays, and days-off.
Preferred Skills
  • Paint and body experience preferred.
  • Diesel experience preferred
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Push, pull, lift, and parts and components weighing up to 60 pounds in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, or installation of these parts and components from a sitting, standing, bending, squatting, or overhead position.
  • Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted spaces including fuel cells an aircraft belly area.
  • Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
