Job description

Overview

The Highlands at Harbor Springs is seeking a proven leader in accounting and finance to join the Executive Team and help spearhead the resort’s effort to create lifelong connections through unforgettable mountain and lakeside adventures for our guests. The Controller is a key leadership role responsible for directing all financial and accounting activities while supporting the achievement of revenue, income, and guest service objectives. This full-time, year-round position reports to the General Manager (with dotted-line reporting to the corporate accounting group) and serves as a contributing member of the Boyne Resorts company-wide finance and accounting team.

Compensation for this position is based on experience, with bonus potential based on company and personal performance.


Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead planning and budget processes for The Highlands to achieve organizational financial goals across all four-season operations (skiing, golf, lodging, food & beverage, and retail)

• Prepare monthly balance sheets, P&L statements, capital budgets, and ROIs

• Provide timely financial reviews and forecasting to senior management

• Lead accounting team in month-end close processes

• Contribute as a member of the Boyne Resorts finance and accounting team, including the company-wide annual audit

• Establish and monitor banking relationships

• Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts

• Participate as a senior staff member contributing finance perspectives to strategic decisions

• Ensure compliance with corporate policies and accounting standards

• Drive transformation initiatives or process improvements through technology

Leadership & Management

• Supervise accounting team members

• Hire, train, evaluate, and direct staff to accomplish departmental goals

• Establish departmental standards, guidelines, and objectives

• Maintain a guest-focused culture across all areas of responsibility, while ensuring strong controls


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA preferred)

• Minimum 7 years progressive experience in finance and accounting

• Strong skills in forecasting, budgeting, and Microsoft Excel

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, with experience assembling and reviewing financial statements

• Experience with point-of-sale systems and enterprise accounting software

• Excellent communication and presentation skills for all organizational levels

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities

• Ability to be on-site in Harbor Springs, MI for this leadership role

Preferred Experience

• Resort, hospitality, or service industry background

• Ski and/or golf industry experience
