Job Title: Middle School Math Teacher- Grade 5
Location: Middle School

Reports To: Middle School Principal

Subordinates: None
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt, 10-Month Position

School Year: 2026-2027

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Middle School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction aligned with the Massachusetts state standards and fostering a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Development

  • Develop and implement engaging, rigorous math lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum Frameworks

Instruction

  • Deliver effective, differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment

Assessment

  • Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress

  • Adjust instruction based on data to improve student outcomes

Technology Integration

  • Integrate instructional technology to enhance learning and build digital literacy

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and strengthen instructional practices

Communication

  • Maintain open, proactive communication with students, families, and colleagues to support student success and a strong school community


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

Education & Certification

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Education, Math, or a related field required; Masterโ€™s degree preferred.

  • Must hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in Middle School Mathematics (Grades 5โ€“8) or Mathematics (Grades 8โ€“12)).

  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required (or must be obtained within the first year of employment).

Experience

  • Prior classroom teaching experience required; experience in Grades 5โ€“8 preferred.

  • Demonstrated success teaching Mathematics.

  • Familiarity with the Mathematics Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Math instruction practices.

  • Proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including ELs and students with special education plans.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
    Commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching.

Authorization

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates in a school and office setting.

  • Some travel between schools may be required.

  • Occasional evening and weekend events for Board of Trustee meetings, parent meetings, college nights, academic and/or athletic events, or professional development may be necessary.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive motions.

  • Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching.

  • Standing or walking for the entirety of an 8-hour shift.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
