Position Description
The Art & Design Studio Technician supports the daily operation, safety, organization, and accessibility of JCC Art & Design Studios, including classrooms, labs, and production studios. This position maintains shared equipment, materials, and studio spaces, and labs; coordinates student workers; supports inventory and purchasing processes; and assists faculty and students with access to studio resources and technology.
The Studio Technician works closely with associated Department Chairs, faculty, Purchasing, IT, Buildings & Grounds, and student workers to ensure that studio spaces are safe, organized, properly stocked, and ready for instruction. This position may also assist with gallery events/exhibitions. A flexible schedule, including occasional evening or weekend hours, may be required.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Associate's degree in Studio Arts, Design, Media Arts, Art Education, Arts Administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Mac computers and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to maintain inventories, spreadsheets, order records, and shared departmental systems.
  • Ability to coordinate student workers and communicate expectations clearly.
  • Familiarity with basic studio safety practices.
  • Ability to lift and move studio materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening or weekend hours.

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Studio Arts, Design, Media Arts, Art Education, Arts Administration, or related field.
  • Experience working in an art, design, media, maker-space, academic studio, or lab environment.
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, budget tracking, or order coordination.
  • Experience supervising or training student workers.
  • Experience with large-format printing, photography equipment, digital media equipment, 3D printers, or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with hazardous art materials, Safety Data Sheets, PPE, and studio safety protocols.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills, including Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.
