General Description: Under the supervision of the Director of the Cole Auditorium, the Technical Assistant will provide assistance in operations of the stage and other areas of the facility.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
  1. In coordination with the Assistant Director/Technical Coordinator, the Assistant will supervise, set-up, aid with run of show, and strike of events held in the facility, as well as schedule, train, supervise, and work with technical stage crew (part-time, as needed crew).
  2. Act as Manager on Duty as needed in the absence of the Assistant Directors and Director; manning box office, ensuring front of house is running safely and effectively, and customer needs are met.
  3. Demonstrate and supervise the safe and proper handling of all production components. Assist with stage rigging, fly system (counter-weight fly system), trusses, curtains, and suspended equipment, following all safety standards.
  4. Able to fill the role of any position on the technical stage crew or facility support staff, to include operation of spotlights, stage management communication system, audio console, and lighting console. Aid positions in load-out and pre- and post-event restorations.
  5. Design and coordinate lighting and sound designs as needed.
  6. Read blue line prints of the facility and of light, sound, and staging production drawings and technical riders.
  7. Run annual and rehearsed shows as stage manager, acting as chief supervisor for technical stage crew when needed.
  8. Maintain stage and all preparatory areas for highest safety, operational, and presentational functions. Assist in inspecting, maintaining production equipment and building systems and make simple repairs.
  9. Maintain private areas of the building for highest level of safety and security, ensuring compliance with all college policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulations, and industry standards.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good communication skills and ability to deal effectively with college staff, vendors, and the general public. Must possess knowledge of current trends in sound, stage, and audiovisual equipment and the maintenance of production equipment. Must be able to train and supervise others, work independently, and have knowledge of the tools and equipment used. Working knowledge running Yamaha LS-9 Sound Console and ETC Element Lighting board a plus. Must be comfortable working on ladders, catwalks, fly lofts, and at heights above 50 feet (catwalks and ladders) and lifting/carrying 50+ pounds. Must be able to push and pull equipment, including fly rail. Computer skills and a valid drivers' license required. Must be able to work flexible schedule with night and weekend duties required, with occasional extended shifts as dictated by event schedule.
Ability to identify methods, opportunities, and solutions to meet or exceed business needs. Ability to prioritize workload.
Working knowledge of InDesign, AutoCad, QLab, iRFR classic, iRFR BTS, Yamaha LS9 Stagemix, Garage Band, Dante and/or other as software/apps associated with sound, light, and stage design preferred.
Minimum Education and Experience:
1. High school diploma required. Associates or Bachelor's degree in Technical Theatre or theatre-related field preferred.
2. Three years professional experience in theatre productions required (technical production, including scenery, lighting, sound, rigging, and electrics); five+ years preferred
