Job description

Purpose
The Hot Foods Clerk is responsible for preparing and maintaining the deli's hot food offerings while ensuring food quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The position assists with food production, repackaging and pricing leftover products for retail sales, receiving deliveries, maintaining cleanliness throughout the department, and providing customer service during busy periods.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook a variety of hot deli foods using fryers, ovens and other kitchen equipment.
  • Monitor food quality, appearance, freshness, and temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Maintain stocked hot food displays throughout the day.
  • Rework approved leftover hot foods into cold-case products according to company procedures.
  • Package, label, date and price products for sale in the cold case.
  • Slice, weigh, package, and label meats, cheeses, salads, and other deli products
  • Rotate inventory and monitor products expiration dates to minimize waste.
  • Receive and unload truck deliveries.
  • Verify incoming shipments and stock products in designated storage areas.
  • Organize coolers, freezers, and storage areas to maintain cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Clean and sanitize fryers, cooking equipment, food preparation surfaces, display cases, and work areas.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Assist customers with product selection, questions, and special requests.
  • Provide prompt service during peak business hours and support other deli team members as needed.
  • Operate scales, labeling equipment, and point-of-sale systems when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by department management.

About You
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous food service, deli, kitchen, or fryer experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to follow recipes, food handling procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and team oriented
  • Proficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication
  • Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store as needed with little or no advance notice
  • Must adhere to safety standards
  • Must adhere to a uniform dress code

Physical Requirements
  • Requires the ability to reach, bend, twist, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing 20-50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 50-80 pounds
  • Must have the ability to stand, walk and / or move about for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work safely around hot cooking equipment, fryers and sharp utensils
  • Requires the ability to push, pull, grasp, twist and use sawing motions for extended periods of time
  • Regularly works in freezers, coolers, refrigerators, inside and outside of the store in all weather conditions and inside delivery trucks
