Job description

DESCRIPTION
Positional Summary:
As a key member of the Engineering Leadership Team, the ideal candidate combines strong leadership and management skills with deep technical expertise in electrical engineering.
The scope of electrical engineering encompasses both new product development and sustaining engineering for existing products. This individual will manage the electrical engineering function and also serve as the technical leader and advisor of the group.
Functional Leadership scope includes - but is not limited to: Managing direct staff in the execution of engineering projects to ensure objectives are met. Developing people, processes and tools to support ongoing innovation and excellence. Ensuring collaboration amongst cross functional teams, fostering a focused team culture.
Technical leadership scope includes - but is not limited to the design and development of: System and subsystem level architectures, board level hardware and software, and motion control.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Engineers, Designers, and Technicians through regular coaching and performance reviews.
  • Oversee project delivery, ensuring alignment with annual objectives and resource allocation plans.
  • Manage departmental budget and third-party resources to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Drive departmental continuous improvement initiatives, such as lab and development tool modernization, training initiatives and process efficiency improvements.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with corporate policies and applicable State and Federal laws, including safety regulations, interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work and appraising performance.
  • Up to 10% travel to; satellite locations, customers, suppliers, tradeshows, or recruiting events.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:
  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering: M.Sc. preferred.
  • 10-15 years of progressive industry experience, with 3-5yrs of experience managing direct reports.
  • Project management experience.
  • Preferred domain experience in product development of capital equipment.

Direct Technical Experience in at least 2 of the following:
  • Electrical systems design; Including conformance with regulatory requirements.
  • Board level design, inclusive of analog/digital circuit design and firmware development.
  • Motion Control design and optimization.
  • Vision system design and optimization.

Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:
  • Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.
  • Remaining stationary for extended periods, but needs to be mobile enough to navigate through work areas.
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.
  • The ability to travel to customer sites or technical conferences may occasionally be required.
