The NP is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team that partners closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, intensivists, hospital medicine providers, nurses, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, psychologists, and palliative care providers to optimize pain management, functional recovery, and patient outcomes. In this FLEX role, the NP will be providing coverage for existing LOAs in various areas of the Pain Team. Responsibilities include:

  • Assess and manage patients requiring opioid or sedative weaning following prolonged critical illness or hospitalization.
  • Monitor treatment response, adjust pain management plans, and coordinate ongoing care throughout hospitalization.

  • Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and communicate recommendations with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients, families, nursing staff, trainees, and healthcare providers regarding pain management, medication safety, and individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, evidence-based practice projects, research, and program development to advance pediatric pain management.
  • Contribute to the education and mentorship of new staff and learners while fostering a collaborative, patient-centered care environment.

  • Experienced nurse practitioners are encouraged to apply.
  • New graduate nurse practitioners with substantial pediatric critical care or other high-acuity pediatric nursing experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills are essential.
