Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Flex Pool Nights

Assignment Type: 13-Week Contract
Start Date: June 29, 2026
Schedule: 12-Hour Night Shifts | 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM

Position Overview
Hilo Medical Center is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for a Flex Pool night shift assignment. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple medical and surgical care units while delivering high-quality patient care in a collaborative acute care environment.
The Flex Pool RN will float between designated units based on patient care needs and staffing requirements. Candidates must be adaptable, clinically confident, and comfortable working in fast-paced medical-surgical and step-down settings.

Unit Assignments
The Flex Pool RN may float to:
  • Medical Unit
  • Laulima Surgical Acute Unit
  • Cardiovascular Unit (occasionally)
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to adult medical-surgical and step-down patients
  • Perform patient assessments, care planning, and implementation of nursing interventions
  • Monitor and document patient conditions accurately using EMR systems
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility policies
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Float between assigned units as needed to support staffing and patient care demands
  • Maintain professional standards and adherence to hospital protocols
Qualifications
  • Active Hawaii RN license required by assignment start date
  • Candidates without a current Hawaii license must apply upon offer acceptance
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience required
  • Experience in Med-Surg and/or Step Down care preferred
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Additional preferred certifications:
    • PALS
    • Procedural Sedation
    • TNCC
    • ENPC
Clinical Environment & Equipment
  • EMR Systems: EPIC and Meditech
  • Equipment utilized may include:
    • Pyxis medication systems
    • Wound vacs
    • Chest tubes
Patient Ratios
  • Medical Unit:
    • Days/Evenings: 1:6
    • Nights: 1:8
  • Laulima Unit: 1:6
  • Cardiovascular Unit: 1:4
