About the Role:

 

The Fleet Operations Planner plays a key role in optimizing shipment routing and fleet utilization across UniGroup’s transportation network. This position focuses on recommending service solutions that maximize available fleet capacity while ensuring on-time pickup and delivery. You will collaborate closely with agents, van operators, vendors, and internal teams to support efficient, high-quality service execution.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys solving complex operational challenges, balancing multiple priorities, and making thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced logistics environment.

What You’ll Do:

 

  • Plan, approve, and route shipments to available UniGroup fleet capacity to optimize equipment utilization and service performance
  • Monitor workflow systems and determine the appropriate course of action for orders, including releases and adjustments
  • Collaborate with agents, van operators, contract truckmen, and internal partners on route and order assignments
  • Support express shipments and develop creative solutions for non-standard or complex orders
  • Maximize line haul revenue and maintain visibility into available capacity such as empty trucks and inbound equipment
  • Communicate clearly with the agent network regarding order changes, requirements, and special handling needs
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with peers, dispatchers, van operators, vendors, and customers
  • Ensure compliance with UniGroup policies and applicable federal and state regulations, including DOT and FMCSA requirements
  • Review reports, complete documentation, and support accurate service execution
  • Make independent day-to-day financial decisions within established guidelines
  • Assist in resolving complex operational issues during the load and delivery process by evaluating options and recommending the best business solution

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent relevant experience
  • 2–3 years of related work experience

  • Experience with routing, load planning, or capacity management

  • Solid math skills, including cubic footage and space planning
  • Working knowledge of Excel, including formulas
  • Ability to work within legacy systems while remaining open to process and system changes
