Job description

POSITION SUMMARY Performs technical work in purchasing and inventory control, including but not limited to, warehousing and distribution of repair parts, fuel, and supplies within a heavy equipment shop environment for the Fleet Management and Road & Bridge departments. WHAT YOU WILL DO Electronically prepares work orders, and records time spent and parts used for vehicle maintenance and repair; creates records and reports related to Fleet maintenance activities, including but not limited to, monitoring services/inspections due and reports to Shop Supervisor. Orders and receives automotive and heavy equipment parts stock & fluids, non-stock items, shop supplies and special orders and returns warranty and core parts to appropriate vendor(s) as needed; may require operating a forklift and/or lifting to onload or offload delivery trucks.

Issues parts to Equipment Service Technicians and other appropriate County personnel, posts issued parts to appropriate work orders and ensures that parts costs are charged to the appropriate department; may require operating a forklift. Develops, recommends, and implements procedures and systems related to the County's equipment parts inventory as directed; conducts annual, biannual, and cycle counts of inventory, recommends appropriate stocking levels and identifies unneeded parts, materials, and supplies for auction. Determines appropriate vendors for automotive and heavy equipment parts; ensures efficient and effective use of County funds.

Maintains all records and prepares reports for Underground Storage Tank (UST) and Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) as required by Federal and State Laws; registered as "Class B Designator" with State of Colorado for Underground Storage Tanks (UST) fuel system. Prepares inventory reports and maintain records; enters and retrieves information on a computerized inventory system; ensures appropriate controls and reporting systems related to parts and supplies inventory. Monitors County's fuel supply and associated consumables requesting reorders as necessary; Independently travels to remote yards to inventory fluids and inspect storage tanks.

Monitors County radio for breakdowns. Maintains, issues, and inventories all shop tools and diagnostic equipment. Maintains necessary records of all work performed using computerized fleet management system.

Maintains work area, tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition; responsible for reporting unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor. Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job. WHAT YOU HAVE Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalency preferred.

Work Experience: 3 years or more truck and/or heavy equipment parts procurement and inventory experience required. OR 6 years of Heavy Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic experience required. Please Note: 2 years of Heavy Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic experience can substitute for every 1 year of parts and warehouse inventory experience.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid Colorado Driver's License required upon hire. UST Class A/B Operator Designation obtained from Colorado Division of Oil and Public Safety, UST (Underground Storage Tank) System Operator Designation required. Medium/Heavy Truck Parts Specialist (P1) obtained from National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence Certification required.

Forklift Certification obtained from an approved Forklift Operator Program required. Note: Current certification or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment. Special Requirements: Must successfully pass background check.

Must be able to pass post job offer physical screening. Must maintain licenses and certifications current.
