Job description

Job Title: Controller (Hands-On)

Location: Orlando / Sanford, FL

Industry: Swimming Pool Construction & Services

Reporting To: Senior Portfolio Manager/Group Controller

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive, "roll-up-your-sleeves" Controller to lead the financial operations of our $40M annual revenue swimming pool contracting firm. This is not a "desk-only" role; you will be deeply involved in Cash Forecasting & Estimating, Job Costing, WIP (Work in Progress) analysis, and partnering with our Project Managers to ensure profitability on every build. You will oversee an accounting team and be responsible for the accuracy of all financial data, internal controls, and cash flow management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Job Costing & WIP: Manage the full lifecycle of project accounting. Maintain and analyze monthly WIP schedules, over/under billings, and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes. Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow.
  • Operational Partnership: Meet weekly with Project Managers to review job performance, identify budget variances, and mitigate risks before they impact the bottom line.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor daily cash positions. Manage accounts receivable (collections) and accounts payable to optimize liquidity.
  • Internal Controls: Design and implement robust processes for inventory management (pool equipment, chemicals, materials) and fleet/overhead expenses.
  • Compliance & Tax: Coordinate with external CPA firms for annual reviews/audits and tax filings. Ensure compliance with Florida construction lien laws and sales tax requirements.
  • System Ownership: Serve as the "Power User" for our ERP/Accounting software (e.g., Quickbooks Desktop and Quickbooks Online).

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Job Costing-intensive Construction or Specialty Contracting environment (e.g., HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or Pool Construction).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA or CCIFP strongly preferred) or Master's in Accounting in lieu of CPA.
  • Technical Skills: Mastery of QuickBooks conversion to QuickBooks Online, API integration, Excel (VLOOKUPS, Pivot Tables, Data Modeling) and experience with construction-specific ERP systems.
  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with Florida-specific construction regulations and lien laws.
  • Full time, in office role.
  • Mindset: A "hands-on" approach-willing to dig into individual invoices or field reports to find answers.

Salary & Compensation (Orlando/Sanford Market)

Compensation: $150,000-$170,000 depending on experience.

Benefits:

  • Medical, Dental, Vision
  • PTO and Paid Holidays
