Novate Solution's Inc. is an Industrial Technology Services firm with 20+ years of providing professional engineering design, turnkey project implementation, and support services for the technology that runs industrial manufacturing facilities. 

Most of our clients are large-scale, industrial facilities that rely on us for our expertise, high-quality implementation of process control systems, information software, instrumentation, industrial networks, SCADA, inspection, motion, and state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 technologies.

Novate is a business-to-business corporation that primarily provides industrial plant services to large corporations. We also engage in selective work with large-scale industrial contractors, government agencies and mid-sized food and beverage producers. 


Summary

The Controller is a key member of the leadership team and reports directly to Executive Management. As Novate Solutions continues to project growth and expansion, this role will be instrumental in overseeing the company's financial and administrative functions.

As a technology company, Novate uses several integrated applications for finance, accounting, project management, procurement and asset management. The Controller will adapt these applications to optimize the reporting and analysis, provide predictive insight and help lead and streamline initiatives that ensure company management.

The Controller will lead a small team of 3 to 6 employees and oversee procurement, invoicing, and general accounting operations. This position is expected to engage and collaborate closely with other members of the leadership team to identify process gaps, develop effective solutions, and drive their implementation.

The Controller is responsible for effectively managing their time, fulfilling core responsibilities, coordinating with staff, and supervising direct reports. Routine duties will be self-directed based on the responsibilities outlined below. We are seeking a positive, dedicated professional who embodies and supports our core values.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Oversee team members in procurement and accounting.

Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger management, project accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial reporting, and internal controls.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of Novate's business models, revenue streams, cost structures, liability exposure, and insurance requirements.

Oversee all billing functions, ensuring contract compliance, accurate invoicing, adherence to billing schedules, and timely collection of receivables.

Establish, formalize and monitor key performance metrics for billing, collections, work-in-progress (WIP), and cash flow.

Manage project cost accounting, including labor burden calculations, material costs, project profitability analysis, and real-time reporting by project and business unit.

Develop and maintain an effective chart of accounts and financial reporting structure that accurately captures revenues, direct costs, fixed costs, and variable costs by business unit.

Lead cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling to support operational planning and executive decision-making.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable tax regulations.

Oversee multi-state sales tax compliance, nexus requirements, and federal, state, and local tax planning initiatives, including available tax credits and deductions.

Partner with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams to establish processes for inventory tracking, material management, quality control, and ISO-compliant documentation

Establish and maintain documented accounting procedures for accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end close, quarter-end close, and financial controls.

Coordinate contract compliance reviews, financial audits, and automated reporting systems to improve accuracy, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Oversee and maintain business compliance systems, contractor qualification platforms, fleet management systems, and other administrative programs required to support company operations.

Participate in and drive executive team financial meetings.

Support migration from QuickBooks Online to a new ERP system.

Periodic travel to other Novate locations is sometimes required.

Other various tasks associated with small corporation business.

Experience and Skills

10+ years of recent accounting experience

Working knowledge of project-based and service business operations

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Knowledgeable in GAAP

Able to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and integrated software systems

Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Familiar with AIA G702 and G703 payment application

Strong leadership and communication skills

General knowledge of business, and corporate taxes

Highly skilled using Excel for in-depth financial analysis

Keyboarding 45 wpm corrected, or greater

10-Key 9,000kph corrected, or greater

Education

BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required; MBA preferred.

License/Certifications
