As of Jul 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for flagger positions in Riverside, CA is $18.04, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.05 and $20.05 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by flaggers on the job, and how can they be managed?

Flaggers often work in environments with heavy traffic and changing weather conditions, which can make the job both physically demanding and stressful. One common challenge is maintaining clear communication with both the construction crew and motorists to ensure safety. To manage these challenges, flaggers receive specialized training in traffic control techniques, use of hand signals, and proper use of safety equipment like high-visibility clothing. Staying alert, following protocols, and working closely with teammates help to minimize risks and ensure smooth workflow.

What is the difference between Flagger Positions vs Traffic Control Technician?

AspectFlagger PositionsTraffic Control Technician
CertificationsTypically require flagger training and certificationRequire flagger certification plus additional traffic control training
Work EnvironmentOn-site at construction zones, directing trafficMore comprehensive, including setup and maintenance of traffic control devices
Employer & Industry UsageCommon in construction, roadwork, and event managementUsed in similar industries, often with broader responsibilities

Flagger Positions primarily focus on directing traffic at work zones, requiring basic flagger certification. Traffic Control Technicians perform similar duties but often include additional responsibilities like installing and maintaining traffic control devices, requiring more extensive training. Both roles are essential for safety in construction and roadwork environments, but Traffic Control Technicians typically have a broader scope of work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagger, you need a clear understanding of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and often a valid flagger certification. Familiarity with traffic control devices, two-way radios, and sometimes temporary traffic signals is typically required. Strong communication, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians in construction zones and help maintain efficient traffic flow.

What are Flagger positions?

Flagger positions involve directing traffic safely around construction zones, roadwork sites, or other areas where normal traffic flow is disrupted. Flaggers use signs, hand signals, and communication devices to guide drivers and protect workers and pedestrians. This role requires attention to detail, quick reflexes, and knowledge of safety regulations. Flaggers often work outdoors in various weather conditions and must wear high-visibility clothing. Training is typically required, and certification may be necessary depending on local regulations.

Job description

About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary
Rivian is seeking a Business Operations Lead to serve as the intelligence layer between the Customer Analytics and Sales & Delivery leadership. This role owns the source of truth for all performance KPIs reported by Sales & Delivery - ensuring the data is clean, consistent, and presented in a way that provides actionable insight and drives decision-making.
This is not an analyst role. It is designed for someone who can move fluently between data and narrative, assess performance across site, regional, and portfolio levels simultaneously, and connect macro business trends to the micro-level patterns playing out across individual teams and locations. Success in this role requires strong analytical judgment, a sharp editorial instinct, and the ability to tell a clear story with data to an executive audience.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the source of truth for all Sales & Delivery performance KPIs - defining metrics, governing definitions, and ensuring consistency across dashboards, reports, and leadership communications
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Customer Analytics organization, translating operational and executive needs into dashboard and reporting requirements and ensuring outputs are clean, accessible, and decision-ready
  • Identify performance trends across site, regional, and portfolio levels - connecting macro dynamics to micro-level patterns and surfacing insights before they become compounding problems
  • Translate performance data into clear, actionable recommendations for Sales & Delivery leadership, with diagnosis, root cause, and a suggested path forward
  • Own the analytical narrative in executive presentations, briefs, WBRs, QBRs, and leadership reviews - not just the charts, but the story they tell and the decisions they should drive
  • Monitor data integrity across all reporting surfaces, identifying inconsistencies, flagging gaps, and driving resolution with the Customer Analytics team to maintain a single version of the truth
  • Build and maintain performance visibility frameworks that give site leaders, regional leaders, and executives the right level of insight for their scope of accountability
  • Partner with Analytics, Finance, Sales Operations, and Field Leadership to align on KPI definitions, ensure consistent application across the organization, and evolve the metrics framework as the business scales

Qualifications
  • 6+ years in retail analytics, sales analytics, commercial performance insights, or a similarly data-intensive commercial role
  • Experience in automotive, retail, or other consumer-facing commercial operations preferred
  • Experience owning KPI frameworks and governing metric definitions across complex, multi-stakeholder organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to assess performance at site, regional, and portfolio levels - and connect macro trends to micro-level outcomes across a distributed organization
  • Fluency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Hex, or similar, with experience shaping dashboard design and working directly with analytics or data engineering teams
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM operations and analytics tooling preferred
  • Proven ability to translate business questions into analytical requirements and analytical findings back into business language
  • Strong narrative instincts: you don't just surface data, you build the story behind it clearly enough that executives can act on it
  • Exceptional written communication and presentation skills - you build executive-ready materials that are clear, well-structured, and decision-oriented

Pay Disclosure
The salary range for this role is $102,300-127,900 for Georgia based applicants and $112,100-140,100 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.
The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
We offer a comprehensive package of benefits for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26, including but not limited to paid vacation, paid sick leave, and a competitive portfolio of insurance benefits including life, medical, dental, vision, short-term disability insurance, and long-term disability insurance to eligible employees. You may also have the opportunity to participate in Rivian's 401(k) Plan and Employee Stock Purchase Plan if you meet certain eligibility requirements. Full-time employee coverage is effective on their first day of employment. Part-time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment. More information about benefits is available at rivianbenefits.com.
Equal Opportunity
Rivian is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information or characteristics, physical or mental disability, marital/domestic partner status, age, military/veteran status, medical condition, or any other characteristic protected by law.
