Job description

The City of Fayetteville is an Equal Opportunity Employer. MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: High School Diploma required; some experience or training in plumbing, heavy equipment operation, and/or mechanical repair preferred; Any combination of education or experience is acceptable. Must have a valid Georgia driver's license (Class C). Must obtain a State of Georgia Department of Transportation Flagging Certificate.
NATURE OF WORK: This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining roads, drainage systems, and/or water collection/distribution systems. Work may involve: maintaining, repairing, and operating light and heavy construction equipment; repairing water distribution/collection systems and appurtenances such as water mains, service lines, meters, fire hydrants, valves, sewer mains, sewer service lines, man holes, and lift stations; and/or repairing and maintaining roads and drainage systems. Work may also include building, grounds, and street maintenance duties.
SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: Operate light and heavy equipment, which may include lawn mower, weed eaters, pump and saws, chain saws, limb saws, backhoes, vac-con truck, dump truck and trenchers. Performs ground maintenance and building maintenance duties such as minor carpentry and painting. May operate City vehicles in the performance of duties, responds to customer complaints, responds to and participates in emergency calls. Performs safety checks on equipment, ensures vehicle and equipment maintenance and cleaning is completed. Performs concrete and asphalt work; maintains storm drains; cleans buildings; picks up trash; cleans shop and vehicles; removes dead animals from road; works city parades, races, etc.; performs set-up and tear down of activities of City functions; maintains right-of-ways and sidewalks; maintains City parks; responds to emergency situations within City to perform related job activities. May be required to be on call at night and on weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is very heavy work and requires exerting: in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally; in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Work is performed both in and out of doors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions. Hazards associated with the operation of power tools and equipment, moving mechanical parts, and working around high voltage pumps may be present. Appropriate safety equipment must be worn at all times.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, polygraph, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history, (copy of drivers' license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
Beginning Salary: $43,139.55
