Employer & Industry UsagePrimarily contracted by construction companies or municipalitiesEmployed directly by companies or contracted for traffic management

Both roles require similar certifications and work in similar environments, but Flagger Companies are service providers, whereas Traffic Control Technicians are often employees or subcontractors performing specific tasks.

What are some common challenges flaggers face on the job, and how are these addressed by flagger companies?

Flaggers often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, maintaining focus during long shifts, and ensuring clear communication in high-traffic environments. Flagger companies typically address these issues by providing thorough safety training, regular breaks, and high-visibility gear. Additionally, many companies foster teamwork and support by assigning flaggers in pairs or small groups and implementing clear protocols to ensure effective coordination with construction crews and law enforcement.

What is a flagger company?

Flagger companies are organizations that provide trained personnel to control traffic flow in and around construction zones, roadwork sites, or special events. These companies employ flaggers who use signs, signals, and hand gestures to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians near hazardous or changing traffic conditions. Flagger companies often supply equipment, training, and certified staff to comply with local and federal safety regulations. Their services are vital for minimizing risks and maintaining efficient traffic movement during various infrastructure projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagger, you need a solid understanding of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and often a valid flagger certification or training card. Familiarity with two-way radios, traffic cones, signage, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is typically required. Strong communication, alertness, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential soft skills. These abilities are crucial for ensuring the safety of road workers, motorists, and pedestrians in dynamic and potentially hazardous work zones.

How do I get a job as a flagger?

To become a flagger, you typically need to complete a state-approved traffic control training course and obtain a certification, such as a flagger card. Employers often look for good communication skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Some positions may require a valid driver's license and physical fitness for the job environment.

Residential & Commercial HVAC Technician

Meyer's Companies, INC.

Griffith, IN โ€ข On-site

$22 - $30/hr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement

Posted 15 days ago

Job description

Most HVAC companies are looking for bodies. We're building a team that sticks around. If you take pride in doing the job right (and want a shop that's been doing it right since 1951), Meyer's Companies is worth a look.

Meyer's Companies, Inc. is a family-owned, full-service company based in Griffith, IN, serving Northwest Indiana and the surrounding Illinois suburbs for over 70 years. We handle both residential and commercial work, so no two days look the same. We're well established, we're growing, and we run on the same thing that's kept us around this long: honest work, fair treatment, and techs we actually take care of.

What You'll Get:

  • $22–$30/hr depending on experience
  • Commission pay on top of your hourly
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Steady, full-time, year-round work (Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts)
  • The stability of a company with 70+ years behind it

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Maintaining and repairing heating, AC, and ventilation systems (residential and commercial)
  • Cleaning, adjusting, and tuning up equipment
  • Diagnosing faults and flagging maintenance risks before they turn into breakdowns
  • Handling warranty work and emergency repairs quickly and cleanly
  • Answering customer questions and concerns in plain language
  • Staying in contact with dispatch and keeping clear daily job logs

Who We're Looking For:

You show up. You take pride in your work. You'd rather do it right than do it twice.

Beyond that:

  • 1+ year of experience as an HVAC technician
  • Working knowledge of heating, air conditioning, and boiler systems
  • EPA 608 certification (preferred, but if you don't have it yet, we'll help you get it)
  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and up high
  • Able to take the occasional on-call, after-hours, or weekend job when needed
  • Solid written and verbal communication

If you don't check every single box but think you'd be a good fit here, apply anyway. A strong work ethic and a good attitude go a long way with us.

How to Apply:

Apply at the link below, and we'll get back to you shortly.
