Position Summary:

The Senior Real Estate Accountant is responsible for the accounting and lease administration of a large privately held real estate portfolio owned or leased by Gordon Food Service. Coordinates with tenants and landlords with respect to new leases, lease renewals, lease-related fees and other lease communications. Maintains ownership of lease software program including tracking, billing, rent roll and payment. Assists the Real Estate Team with all aspects of real estate transactions and development projects. Interprets and implements financial and accounting concepts or techniques for financial planning and control. Supports the general ledger closing cycle, fixed asset management, financial statement reporting, and projects requiring financial expertise.


What you will do:

Accounting

  • Interprets and applies corporate financial policies and generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Assists in the development of budget, planning, and other corporate financial requirements.

  • Manages general ledger software, including report maintenance, GL account oversight, subledgers and other core functions.

  • Participates in month-end, quarter-end and year-end general ledger closing cycle and financial statement preparation.

  • Prepares and organizes data for reconciliation of balance sheet.

  • Knowledge of all accounting cycles including accounts payable, accounts receivable and internal control procedures.

  • Knowledge of fixed assets management software as well as fixed asset principles including construction in progress, depreciation, GAAP and tax asset lives.

  • Knowledge of day-to-day treasury functions.

  • Prepares and organizes data for audit.

  • Preparation of studies, reports, and analyses in areas such as budgets, forecasts, financial plans and statistical reports.

  • Responsible for construction project tracking including budget vs. actual cost analysis.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Leadership. i.e. data analysis and expense report processing.

Leasing Administration

  • Own and manage commercial lease administration software.

  • Supports Real Estate Team to manage leases throughout the entire lifecycle including renewals, extensions and cancellations.

  • Accounting and tracking the lease administration process including lease creation, renewal notifications, payment coordination, monthly rent increases, rent roll updates, etc.

  • Responsible for the creation and accuracy of billings and reconciliation of tenant accounts.

  • Responsible for lease management fees charged to tenants.

  • Assists team with real estate functions and responsibilities.

When you will work:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

  • Hybrid Work Schedule: 4 days in office, 1 day from home.

What you will bring to the table:

  • Five or more years of experience in accounting.

  • Experience in commercial, retail, or industrial real estate preferred.

  • Will consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Experience with MRI Property Mgmt Software is a plus.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational and problem-solving skills and reporting skills.

  • Must have the ability to multitask, prioritize, and ability to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Strong attention to detail to assist with general ledger maintenance, tenant billings, and audit.

  • Must have a thorough knowledge of real estate documents and the development process.

  • Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems. May refer to established precedents and policies.

  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
