Job description

FUNCTION: Responsible for the overall leadership, operations, and programming of the Fitness Center. The Manager ensures the Fitness Center delivers high-quality fitness, longevity, and wellness experiences while maintaining a welcoming, safe, and well-maintained environment. Ensures that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the ONE BRAYS Leadership Credo.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Lead, supervise, and develop fitness center staff through scheduling, coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
  2. Foster a positive, service-oriented team culture while ensuring alignment with organizational values and a “One Brays” collaborative environment.
  3. Plan, develop, and execute fitness programs, community wellness events, workshops, and initiatives that support longevity, mobility, strength, balance, recovery, and overall wellness.
  4. Oversee daily operations of the Fitness Center, ensuring a clean, safe, welcoming, and fully operational facility that meets all safety and operational standards.
  5. Manage relationships with contract instructors, vendors, and service providers while coordinating group fitness schedules and special programs.
  6. Monitor equipment condition, coordinate preventative maintenance and repair, and ensure the facility remains well-maintained.
  7. Manage the Fitness Center budget, track expenses and contractor payments, and maintain administrative records, reports, and operational procedures.
  8. Engage with owners to understand their fitness needs, address feedback, and deliver exceptional customer service that enhances the member experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Position involves climbing, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying and moving objects that can weigh up to 50+lbs. This movement can occur through out the day. Must be able to transport oneself around the plantation. Must have valid South Carolina drivers’ license.
  2. Able to see well enough to read faint, or partially obscured writing or printing to include safety signage, with corrective lenses, if needed.
  3. Must be able to work extended hours, days, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  4. Must possess the ability to physically subdue a combative individual.
  5. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound, perceiving their nature with no less than 40 db loss @ 500 Hz. 1,000 Hz. and 2,000 Hz.
  6. Ability to express or exchange information by means of spoken word.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must be able to work constructively and cheerfully in an environment that may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of the department’s activities.
  2. The employee may be required to participate in more than one assignment at time with frequent interruptions, changes and delays; the employee must be able to remain focused and work effectively, efficiently and cheerfully under such circumstances.
  3. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health, Business, or related field preferred. Personal training or group fitness certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, or similar) preferred.
Knowledge: Prior experience managing a fitness facility, wellness center, or similar environment. Computer knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of fitness programming, personal training, and group exercise.
Skills: Must demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and advance communication skills. Strong leadership and staff management skills.
Experience: 2-4 years customer service experience in a fast-paced environment a must. Budget
management and administrative experience preferred.
