Sandbar is an interface company in New York City. We aim to augment individuals so we can each think, act, and move more freely. Our team has built SW, ML, and HW products across Meta, CTRL-labs, Google, Apple, Fitbit, Peloton, and Equinox.
Our first product, Stream, is a self extension-a private voice ring and conversational interface. Stream has been featured in WSJ, Bloomberg, & Wired, and begins shipping in Summer '26.

About
As Head of Engineering, you'll lead our software and machine learning teams in building a new interface that makes all of computing feel as simple as thinking. You'll guide and grow our mobile, infrastructure, backend, and AI/ML teams and work closely alongside our product, hardware, and firmware teams. You'll play a significant role in shipping our first product, Stream, as well as shaping our future product, technical, and team direction.
This role is perfect for an experienced engineering leader who cares deeply about team growth and culture, and who wants to build tools that augment individuals in an agentic world.
Responsibilities
  • Lead our software and ML engineering teams across mobile, backend, infrastructure, and AI/ML
  • Drive product delivery-balancing shipping, quality, and velocity
  • Define engineering requirements and goals and facilitate sprints
  • Provide architectural guidance, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and product to ship cohesive, full-stack products
  • Shape technical and product direction-identifying where to invest and what to build next

Qualifications
  • 8+ years in software engineering or machine learning with 3+ years leading engineering teams across multiple disciplines
  • Experience shipping consumer-facing software / ML products
  • Strong technical breadth across mobile, backend, and ML-able to go deep when needed and guide architecture across the stack
  • Track record of building high-performing teams in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
  • Passion for human-computer interaction
