What is a fit model?

A Fit Model, or Fitting Model, helps clothing designers in the initial stages of garment design. As a Fit Model, your responsibilities include communicating with the designers and manufacturers about how the clothing fits and how the fabric feels, providing feedback about potential adjustments. You also must maintain your weight and measurements so that you provide a consistent form for the designers. A Fit Modeling job is generally much longer than other model work, like photo shoots and fashion shows. It can take a long period of time to perfect garments, requiring you to make ongoing visits to the designer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fit model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fit Model, you need to maintain specific body measurements that match industry sample sizes and possess a basic understanding of garment construction and fit. Familiarity with sizing charts, fitting procedures, and sometimes experience with 3D body scanning tools are typically required. Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback are vital soft skills that set successful fit models apart. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure accurate garment sizing, effective communication with design teams, and the overall quality of fashion products.

What are the typical challenges a fit model faces during fittings, and how can they be addressed?

Fit Models often encounter challenges such as standing for long periods, maintaining consistent body measurements, and providing clear feedback to designers. It's important to communicate comfort and mobility concerns honestly, as this helps the design team make necessary adjustments. Additionally, Fit Models may need to adapt to varying schedules and work with multiple brands, requiring flexibility and professionalism. Staying fit, following a healthy lifestyle, and building strong communication skills can help address these challenges and ensure a successful career in this role.

What is the difference between Fit Model vs Pattern Maker?

AspectFit ModelPattern Maker

Work EnvironmentClothing fitting sessions in design studios or manufacturing facilitiesDesign studios, manufacturing plants, or pattern development rooms
Employer & Industry UsageFashion brands, apparel companies, clothing manufacturersFashion houses, apparel companies, pattern development firms

While both Fit Models and Pattern Makers work closely in the apparel industry, Fit Models primarily participate in fitting sessions to evaluate garment fit and sizing, whereas Pattern Makers create the patterns used to produce garments. Fit Models focus on body measurements and fitting feedback, while Pattern Makers translate design concepts into technical patterns. Both roles are essential in the clothing development process but serve different functions within the industry.

How much does a fit model get paid?

Fit models typically earn between $15 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, the complexity of the samples, and the company. Payments can also be structured as daily or session rates, especially for freelance or part-time work, and fitting sessions usually require good communication skills and attention to detail.

Job description

Who we are
We're The Beck Group, the largest and most innovative integrated building firm in the country. We are focused on delivering design and construction excellence on a broad range of project types. Headquartered in downtown Dallas, with offices in Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Worth, Mexico City, and Tampa, we believe a better process and outcome results from working together. At Beck, you will find yourself surrounded by passionate colleagues who have a collaborative mindset and care about each other. We are committed to hiring the best and brightest within our industry, and that's why we are seeking experienced professionals like you to help transform the industry and continue building Beck's respected reputation.
The Beck Group is seeking a Construction Modeling Engineer to join our Virtual Solutions team in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This role is ideal for someone early in their AEC career who has a foundation in Revit, an interest in construction technology, and the drive to learn fast across a wide range of VDC workflows.
Virtual Solutions supports project teams by bridging the gap between design and construction. Our work includes enhanced construction modeling, integrated construction drawings, reality capture, scan-to-BIM, 3D coordination support, field layout workflows, model data, and technology-driven problem solving.
This is not a traditional single-lane role. One day may be focused on Revit construction modeling, the next may involve laser scanning, coordination support, Dusty Robotics, existing conditions modeling, drones, research and development, or something we have not fully defined yet. The right person will be adaptable, curious, hardworking, and willing to jump in wherever the team needs support.
What You'll Do
  • Develop Revit-based construction models to support project teams across multiple regions.
  • Support Integrated Construction Drawing workflows, including concrete-related modeling, embeds, sleeves, slab penetrations, and other construction-focused deliverables.
  • Assist with reality capture and laser scanning workflows, including field scanning, point cloud processing, and scan-to-BIM support.
  • Support 3D coordination efforts by helping prepare, review, and organize models for project use.
  • Work within Autodesk Construction Cloud workflows to support model exchange, coordination, documentation, and project communication.
  • Assist with Dusty Robotics, field layout, and other field technology workflows as needed.
  • Help extract model data, quantities, and other information from models to support project teams.
  • Participate in research, testing, and development of new VDC workflows, tools, and processes.
  • Communicate progress, issues, and questions clearly with the National Virtual Solutions Manager and other team members.
  • Learn and apply Virtual Solutions standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Stay flexible and willing to support a wide range of VDC-related tasks as project needs evolve.

Who We Think Will Be a Great Fit
This role is a great fit for someone who is curious, hardworking, and excited by the idea of learning multiple sides of VDC. You do not need to know everything on day one, but you should have a solid starting point and a strong desire to keep improving.
You should be comfortable working in Revit, interested in how buildings are designed and built, and willing to take on different types of work without needing the role to be the same every day. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a willingness to jump in, ask good questions, and help move work forward.
The right person will not shy away from new technology, field work, modeling challenges, or unfamiliar workflows. This is a role for someone who wants exposure, growth, and the opportunity to develop into a well-rounded VDC professional.
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Building Science, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in architecture, engineering, construction, VDC, BIM, or a related AEC role.
  • Proficiency in Revit, with working knowledge of the Autodesk suite.
  • Basic understanding of building systems, construction documents, and construction workflows.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to support a wide variety of VDC-related tasks.
  • Ability to travel for projects or field-related needs (out of state possible).
  • Located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Desktop Connector, ReCap, or Autodesk Point Layout.
  • Laser scanning, reality capture, or point cloud experience.
  • Exposure to scan-to-BIM or existing conditions modeling.
  • Experience with 3D coordination workflows.
  • Familiarity with field layout technology, Dusty Robotics, drones, or other construction technology tools.
  • Interest in Dynamo, Revit automation, model data, quantity extraction, or workflow improvement.
  • Experience reading construction drawings, shop drawings, or trade coordination documents.

What This Role Is Not
This is not a management role. This position is focused on learning, producing work, supporting project teams, and growing into a well-rounded Virtual Solutions professional. The ideal candidate is someone who is ready to roll up their sleeves, learn quickly, and help the team solve whatever comes next.
Beck's Benefits
