The Bike Shop, an Engineering prototyping and fabrication department within the Hardware Directorate of Raytheon, seeks a Prototype Planner Section Leader, in Tucson, AZ. The mission of the Bike Shop is to enable our program partners to successfully demonstrate solutions to their engineering problems by providing rapid, innovative engineering solutions, prototype fabrication, and test support throughout a program’s development life cycle.

As a section leader at the Bike Shop, this individual will lead a group of approximately 15 prototype planners. Some Prototype Planning duties include: performing BOM analysis, purchasing components, generating material status reports, requesting components from Engineering stores, and identifying and dispositioning quality discrepancies and non-conformances through Engineering stores. The selected individual will also utilize various tools including SAP(PRISM), Common PDM, MatTrak, and RAYTrak. Prototype planners also ensure that quality, cost, and schedule requirements are met for engineering hardware and identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.

The selected individual will likely be a focal point for specific programs to meet program schedules and quality objectives. They’ll also work with team members and multiple functions to achieve the following:

  • Plan and manage kitting requests through Engineering stores.

  • Develop inventory control to avoid delayed schedule.

  • Assist in processing program requests and shipments according to the established schedule.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on Engineering objectives, Engineering strategies and support activities.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to complete kitting request on-time and within program requirements.

Expect as a section leader, to supervise a team of up to 15 individuals working closely with section members on their performance and career development goals. The leader will also be responsible for maintaining section capabilities as well as ensuring that the Bike Shop is adequately staffed. Management duties include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor project execution and on-time delivery, and provide technical expertise in direct support of their section. The candidate will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the Department Leader concerning employee job assignments, performance impact and recognition.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and six (6) years of relevant experience OR In absence of a degree, twelve (12) years of relevant experience is required

  • Experience with prototype planning

  • Working knowledge of SAP/PRISM for material procurement and material movement.  

  • Previous work history of achieving alignment and collaboration between various disciplines in order to achieve organizational and programmatic objectives

  • Supplier quoting and interface experience.

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • A bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering, or Business Administration

  • Working knowledge of electronic components

  • Experience in a direct customer-facing role

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

  • Active DoD clearance: Secret or higher

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
