Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of Regional Fleet Manager, the YMCA of the Triangle Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. This position may also provide support in other areas as assigned.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  • Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms or App based E-log software. Cleans out bus each day.
  • Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  • Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  • Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  • Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
  • Responsible for Bus Routes for assigned region:
    • South Region - Chatham, Ingram, Kraft, NW Cary, Taylor
    • North Region -Finley, Kerr, Knightdale
    • West Region - Chapel Hill, Durham
    • Central Region - Alexander, East Triangle, Poole, Southeast Raleigh

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • As required by insurance and license standards, must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience or 20 years of age with 3 years driving experience.
  • Must have a valid commercial driver's license (Class B CDL) with P. Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement.
  • Must successfully meet YMCA of the Triangle Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Record, and driver screening requirements.
  • Knows the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  • Must obtain certifications through the YMCA in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen (or equivalent) within first 30 days of hire.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
