Job description

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker for Pecos National Historical Park.
Salary Range Information: First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level.
WG-07: $26.34 (Step 1) to $30.71 (Step 5) per hour - Albuquerque-Santa Fe-Los Alamos, New Mexico (AQ) Wage Area

As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider:

  • your performance and conduct;
  • the needs and interests of the agency;
  • whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and
  • whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Qualifications:
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/04/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  1. Ability To Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)
  2. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  3. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  4. Knowledge of Materials
  5. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)

To be minimally qualifying you must demonstrate in your resume experience you are able to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision for the Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-7 position with at least two of the following trades:
  • Carpentry - constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.
  • Painting - preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces
  • Plumbing - replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.
  • Roofing- repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles
  • Electrical - repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures
  • Masonry - maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications
  • Water Plant Operator - monitoring pumping equipment, regulating water, reading meters gauges and charts, recording readings and preparing reports
