The First Generation Student Program, within the Division for Student Affairs, supports and empowers first-generation undergraduate students throughout their GW experience. Through leadership development, mentorship, community-building programs, academic support, and campus partnerships, we help students build meaningful connections, develop confidence, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Our office creates opportunities for students to engage with peers, faculty, staff, and alumni while celebrating the strengths and experiences of the first-generation community. We are committed to fostering a welcoming environment where every first-generation student feels seen, supported, and successful.
Position Specific Summary
The First Generation Student Program within the Division for Student Affairs is seeking a creative and organized undergraduate student to serve as the Communications & Programming Coordinator. This student leader will support communications, marketing, programming, and special projects that enhance the experience of first-generation students at GW.
Responsibilities include managing social media content, assisting with the First Gen Podcast, creating marketing materials, supporting program planning and outreach, researching best practices, and assisting with campus-wide initiatives that promote engagement, leadership, and student success.
Standard Position Description
The student will assist in the administrative functions of special projects. Tasks may include:assist with project or program development and maintenance, perform administrative tasks, assist in data collection and data entry, attend and assist in the scheduling of meetings, provide support for events related to the project/program. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.

Required Qualifications
This is an entry level position, little to no experience required, all training will be provided (Students working in an instructional capacity should be very familiar with the subject area in which they are working).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, social media management, graphic design, video editing, event planning, or content creation. Interest in higher education, communications, marketing, or student affairs preferred.
