Job description

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, operates a school bus to safely transport students to and from school for Sunnyside Unified School District.  
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
(Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.  This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class).
TASKS:
Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify proper working order of school buses; transports students to and from school, field trips and other outings according to schedule and safety guidelines; maintains discipline on bus and prepares necessary discipline reports; may assist with securing wheel chairs for disabled students; participates in student bus evacuation training and drills.
Maintains mileage and student count log; prepares accident, incident and maintenance reports as needed; writes and records repair orders; cleans and fuels school buses; maintains communication and effective working relationships with parents, staff and other bus drivers; performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: 
Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Knowledge of motor vehicle and passenger transportation laws.
Knowledge of school bus inspection and procedures.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
Skill in operating and driving a school bus.
Skill in monitoring students and maintaining order while driving.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, walking, standing, sitting, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to moving equipment, extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases. 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a valid AZ driver's license and clean driving record for five (5) years.
Must possess or obtain an Arizona commercial driver's license with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements and school bus driver certification.
Must be CPR and first aid certified.
Must obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS).
 *Will be hired as a substitute bus driver trainee if you do not have a valid CDL* 
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
Salary Grade:  I        Hourly Pay:  $20.90 with CDL; $16.50 with out CDL     Hours per Day:  6       Days in Contract:  208
