Job description

DRUG FREE WORKPLACE Applicants for employment and volunteer opportunities should be aware of the City of Sierra Vista's policies concerning the use of drugs and alcohol. These policies have not been altered by the passage of proposition 207. The use of recreational marijuana is a violation of the City's Drug Free Workplace Policy.

All positions within the City are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test. A positive result for drugs tested under the policy, including recreational marijuana, may be grounds for withdrawal of an offer of employment or volunteer opportunity. The examination process may vary if determined necessary.

Definition & Essential Functions City of Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services is conducting recruitment for the position of EMT. Definition & Essential Functions: Under general supervision, performs a variety of emergency medical services (EMS) duties, primarily while responding to 911 emergency responses, and non-emergency local transports throughout the City of Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca. This is a 40 hour per week position.

Shift Scheduling will vary. Any hour worked over 40 hours per week will be overtime. City Crew -typically works 48 hours on, 120 hours off schedule.

Fort Huachuca Crew - typically rotates with city crews, but will also work a 48 hours on, 120 hours off schedule, or a 40 hour on, 120 hour off schedule at Black Tower Station. FLSA status: Non-Exempt. Essential functions included in the job description may include tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.

Tasks Performs general maintenance of fire station along with other crew members Checks tools, equipment, supplies, and materials of each ambulance to ensure that all are in proper operating condition Performs a variety of emergency medical activities at fire, accident, hazardous material, or other emergency situations as a certified emergency medical care technician EMCT Initiates pre-hospital medical care to individuals Provides basic life support and assists paramedic personnel, or provides advanced life support if certified as a paramedic, at emergency scenes Participates in public education/information events, such as station tours or group presentations Participates in regular training/drills Knowledges, Skills & Other Characteristics Knowledge of: First aid, CPR, and other basic emergency medical care techniques and methods Basic Life Support techniques, as required of an Basic Emergency Medical Technician. Advanced life support techniques, as required of a certified paramedic Streets, addresses, and locations throughout the city of Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca, with familiarity of neighboring communities and surrounding areas Applicable state, federal, and local statutes, codes, and ordinances The use and purpose of a variety of specialized equipment, tools, and apparatus used in rescue and emergency medical situations Pertinent OSHA laws, regulations, and requirements Skills in: Using a personal computer with basic office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation applications Safe and proper use of all specialized EMS equipment, vehicles, apparatus, and materials Understanding and interpreting complex statues, ordinances, regulations, and standards Applying basic and/or advanced emergency medical assistance techniques Working effectively in hazardous environments subject to infectious/contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, personal injury, quickly changing priorities, and the ability to remain calm during emergency situations Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department EMS personnel, City staff, fire suppression staff, and the general public Presenting complex subjects to a variety of audiences at an appropriate level of understanding geared for the listeners Following oral instructions under stressful situation Qualifications Required: High school diploma, or equivalent Arizona EMCT certifications Healthcare provider CPR certification Valid Arizona driver's license.
