Can I work in logistics with no experience?

First Logistics and similar logistics roles often accept entry-level applicants with little or no experience, especially if they demonstrate strong organizational skills and a willingness to learn. What is first logistics?

First Logistics typically refers to companies or organizations involved in the initial stages of the supply chain, handling the movement, storage, and distribution of goods from suppliers to businesses or directly to customers. Their services often include freight forwarding, warehousing, transportation management, and inventory control. First Logistics can operate locally or internationally, ensuring that products reach their destinations efficiently and safely. These companies play a crucial role in supporting businesses by optimizing logistics processes and reducing operational costs.

What are some common challenges faced by first logistics professionals and how can they be addressed?

Job description

Why This Role Matters
Every delivery your team touches impacts customer satisfaction, cost efficiency, and operational performance. In this role, you'll directly shape how an entire region runs; using data, routing technology, and real-time decision making to ensure deliveries happen efficiently and reliably. Your work will translate into fewer delays, better resource use, and a smoother experience for both drivers and customers.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 90 days, you'll have taken ownership of routing across one or more service centers, identified key inefficiencies in route performance, and implemented measurable improvements in metrics like route completion, miles per route, and driver productivity. You'll also establish clear reporting dashboards and become a trusted partner to General Managers by providing data-driven recommendations they use to run their operations.
What You'll Actually Do in Your First 30 Days
  • Review existing routing plans across assigned service centers and identify 2-3 immediate opportunities to improve efficiency (e.g., route consolidation, reduced mileage, better stop sequencing)
  • Build or refine KPI dashboards tracking metrics such as delivery percentage vs plan, driver productivity, and route density
  • Shadow service center operations and drivers to understand real-world constraints affecting route performance
  • Partner with General Managers to align on priorities and begin implementing at least one routing improvement initiative

What You'll Do (Ongoing)
  • Manage routing for 18-22 truck/driver combinations, adjusting plans daily based on demand, weather, and operational constraints
  • Use routing software, GPS data, and analytics tools to improve delivery efficiency and reduce costs
  • Analyze metrics like gallons per stop, route completion rates, and driver productivity to identify improvement opportunities
  • Partner with operations, IT, and service center teams to improve system usage and logistics workflows
  • Conduct route audits and implement changes that improve service consistency and reduce overtime
  • Support driver performance by identifying trends and working with field leadership on improvements
  • Help plan for peak demand periods and operational disruptions

Must Have
  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, routing, transportation planning, or supply chain operations
  • Hands-on experience using routing software, ERP systems, or similar logistics tools
  • Strong ability to analyze data and turn insights into operational changes
  • Experience managing or supporting high-volume delivery or fleet operations
  • Ability to travel regularly to service centers within the region

Nice to Have
  • Experience working across multiple locations or regions
  • Background in propane, fuel distribution, or route-based delivery industries
  • Advanced Excel or data visualization skills (dashboards, KPI tracking)
  • Experience partnering with operations or field leadership teams
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Work Environment
You'll primarily work from an office setting while regularly visiting service centers to stay close to operations. Expect to adjust schedules occasionally during peak seasons or weather-related disruptions, when your decisions help keep deliveries on track.
Company Culture
We're a practical, operations-focused team that values people who solve problems and make things work better, not just talk about it. You'll work closely with leaders in the field, where collaboration is direct, feedback is real, and your impact is visible every day.
Pay Rate is $70,000-$85,000 + Bonus (Depending on Experience)
Benefits
We offer competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits program designed to support your physical, financial, and family wellbeing. Eligible employees can customize coverage from:
  • Multiple medical insurance options
  • Dental and voluntary vision coverage
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Supplemental Life/AD&D
  • Voluntary Short-Term Disability
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Propane discounts

No-cost benefits include:
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • $50,000 Basic Life/AD&D
  • Long-term disability
