Job description


Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects to help them develop the skills necessary for intellectual, emotional, and social growth. Enable students to achieve academic success and be prepared for future grade-level advancement.
Qualifications:


  • Education/Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Valid Texas teaching certification in EC6 Core Subjects or appropriate grade-level certification
    • ESL Certification (preferred or willingness to obtain)
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Knowledge of 1st-grade curriculum, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and best instructional practices
    • Strong classroom management and student engagement techniques
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to integrate technology effectively into daily instruction
  • Experience:
    • Student teaching or one or more years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the district curriculum, meet state standards, and accommodate the learning needs of all students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, activities, and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Create a positive, supportive classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
  • Assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to guide instructional planning.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional support staff to ensure academic success for all students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Actively engage and communicate with parents through conferences, phone calls, newsletters, and parent meetings to ensure consistent support for students.
  • Incorporate technology into instruction and student learning activities.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with instructional methods, curriculum changes, and district expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records, including attendance, grades, and progress reports.
  • Uphold all district policies and procedures and comply with Carroll Elementary and Sheldon ISD expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration.

Working Conditions:

  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; handle multiple priorities and student needs simultaneously.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and light lifting.
  • Environment: Classroom setting with some outdoor activities as needed.

*Salary commensurate with experience

*Remote work is not available for this role.
Sheldon ISD will accept applications for this position through June 7, 2026.
