Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking passionate Educational Assistants (EA) who are organized and looking for an enriching experience to be part of the new school team. The Educational Assistant is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & Language-related disabilities may be encountered.
KEY RESPONSIBITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support students' growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
  • Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
  • Work collaborative under guidance of teacher, inclusive education teacher and members of a multi-disciplinary team,
  • Implement specialist (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
  • Implement behaviour management and educational strategies that facilitate student learning
  • Document student progress as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
  • Observe student behaviour with focus on achieving positive behavioural/educational outcomes and mitigate/prevent negative ones
  • Provide high level of structure to facilitate completion of required learning outcomes
  • Work and play at student's physical level of their activities
  • Provide support in use of adaptive and learning technologies using a variety of devices and associated programs
  • Successfully implement the Positive Behaviour Plan(PBP), if required
  • Able to understand, implement and support modified curriculum
  • Able to work with and support students with Autism or complex medical needs
  • Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
  • Physical ability to lift and move students
  • Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision


KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Educational Assistant Certificate or above is required
  • Related degree or diploma is considered an asset
  • Previous related experience is required
  • Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract required
  • Computer literate - including fluency with e-mail, internet and Microsoft Office program.
  • Successful candidate willbe required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
