We are seeking a Health and Safety Specialist based in our Byhalia, MS location to join the Byhalia Operations team.

What you will be doing:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Health and Safety Manager will develop and implement health and safety plans in line with legal guidelines and enforce policies that promote a culture of safety. Collaborating with supervisors, they will foster a "Safety First" mindset by encouraging best practices, providing training, leading health and safety meetings, and conducting root cause analyses to address and correct safety issues.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and company standards.
  • Lead the annual safety campaign, "Ambition Zero - Together!", with the goal of achieving zero lost time incidents (LTI).
  • Drive BBS initiatives to build and sustain a safety-first culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Provide training and support to employees and supervisors on BBS principles and best practices.
  • Oversee the "Good Catch" program to encourage proactive identification and reporting of potential hazards.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and other safety concerns to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain records and reports related to workplace injuries, incidents, and safety inspections.
  • Manage the Worker's Compensation program and internal Fire Protection program.
  • Develop and conduct health and safety training programs for all employees, ensuring they understand and comply with safety regulations.
  • Lead regular health and safety meetings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety awareness and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop strategies to minimize risks and prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases.
  • Collaborate with operations personnel to implement safety measures and controls to mitigate identified risks.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance overall safety performance.
  • Stay current with industry best practices and regulatory changes to continuously improve the health and safety program.
What you bring:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Experience with Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) programs and safety management systems.
  • Ability to influence and drive a culture of safety across the organization.
  • Proactive and results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
