POSITION SUMMARY:
The YMCA of Florida's First Coast is a leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Branch Healthy Living Director is responsible for the development, organization, implementation and evaluation of health and wellness programs, ensuring that all operations are in line with the strategic plans for the organization and promote the YMCA mission. Provides direct supervision of health and wellness staff and programs, including but not limited to group exercise, personal training, adaptive wellness, healthy living programs and the wellness center. The Branch Director of Healthy Living will inspire and lead a high functioning health and wellness staff team, who will deliver excellence to all members and community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. The Branch Healthy Living Director will lead the branch and represent our Y in the community as a spokesperson for the Y's Healthy Living initiatives.
  2. Direct supervision of branch healthy living programs, (examples can include group exercise, individual and small group personal training, chronic disease prevention and the wellness center), development of group health and wellness programs, onboarding members, and member engagement.
  3. Participate in association-wide functions to include but not limited to Florida's First Coast YMCA trainings, Branch Healthy Living Director meetings, Business Development School, and association special events.
  4. Work with the Director of Healthy Living Innovations: Member Engagement to develop, monitor and control the department budget, with assistance from Branch Leader.
  5. Responsible for recruiting, hiring and training staff to model a relationship building and member-focused staff team, who are fully trained and educated to engage and support members, through our association programs and/or solutions.
  6. Responsible for conducting ongoing assessment of staff functions to determine required core competencies and skills; design and implement trainings as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff to achieve goals.
  7. Serve effectively as a branch team contributor; branch Manager-on-Duty (MOD), as assigned, provide support to all branch departments, affiliated fund raising efforts and attend weekly branch meeting.
  8. Provide strategic leadership on association Growth and Impact teams, and task force committees, as needed.
  9. Work with the Director of Healthy Living Innovations: Member Engagement to research industrial trends and opportunities to build quality Health and Wellness programs for the First Coast community.
  10. Responsible for tracking reports for department targets, including revenue, forecasting, Engagemore, Fast Forward Fitness onboarding and member retention.
  11. Provide branch department leads with the overall Healthy Living vision/direction and all department happenings, and program changes.
  12. Ensure proper & timely billing to program participants with non-payment, incorrect payment or forward balances.
  13. Supervision of the Wellness Center: ensuring equipment function, safety protocols, scheduling maintenance and repairs, and monitor daily operations to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
  14. Ensure staff carry proper/current certifications and maintains accurate documentation according to YMCA of Florida's First Coast guidelines
  15. Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed.
  16. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
  17. Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.
  18. Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
  19. Demonstrates compliance with YMCA Child Abuse Prevention and Abuse Risk Management policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This work requires the sufficient strength (ability to move weights 30 lbs or higher), agility and mobility to perform essential position functions. The work is performed primarily indoors, and may require occasional travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in exercise science, health, physical education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in health and wellness management, which include program development, member retention, staff development and fiscal management.
  3. Minimum 2-5 years in supervisory experience, including full-time and part-time employees. Has a proven track record displaying an ability to motivate, educate, develop, and inspire staff.
  4. Holds certifications in YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles, Strength Training; or related certifications through a reputable industry source (ACE, ASCM, AFAA, etc.)
  5. Able to complete the YMCA specific trainings within 3 months of the position.
  6. Ability to present a positive image for staff, participants, colleagues, supervisors and the community.
  7. Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs.
  8. Strong Interpersonal skills and team oriented.
  9. Knowledge of research methods and a high degree of computer efficiency in Microsoft office products.
  10. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
