Job description

Description:

Summary Sets up and operates computer numerical control lathes/mills to perform various machine functions such as turning/facing/drilling/milling/reaming/boring/tooth cutting/threading of parts such as castings/forgings/bar stock/other machined parts

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

· Reads/interprets blueprints/planning sheets/sketches/related technical data to determine tooling requirements/set-up procedures/control settings/machining methods/sequences

· Mounts/aligns and secures tooling/attachments and work piece on machine

· Selects/installs required tooling in designated machine positions

· Assembles/presets tooling for next sequence or job during automated cycle in order to minimize machine changeover or down time

· Enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database or when necessary modifies existing programs or creates new programs necessary to efficiently produce parts meeting specification/quality requirements

· Calculates/sets machine controls to position tooling in relationship to work piece and to regulate factors such as cutting depth/speed/feed/coolant flow

· Starts machine/monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions

· Operates machine on preliminary dry run before machining first part to detect errors in program/tooling placement

· Manufactures first part/secures first piece approval before commencing production run

· Verifies conformance of finished parts to specs/maintains records required by control plan

· Deburrs all work

· Stops machine to change tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specs

· Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions/out-of-tolerance machining

· Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions/when programming is faulty or machine malfunctions

· Cleans machine/tooling parts/work area at completion of job/end of day

· Performs machine maintenance according to designated schedule

· Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • 5 years’ experience in First Class Machinist capacity
