POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Director of Marketing serves as the strategic leader responsible for advancing the vision, mission, and public presence of Mount Zion Baptist Church through innovative marketing, communications, branding, and creative strategy. This leader will develop and execute integrated marketing initiatives that inspire engagement, remove barriers for first-time guests, strengthen discipleship pathways, and position Mount Zion as an oasis of hope locally and globally.

The Executive Director of Marketing will oversee all aspects of the church's brand experience, including communications, creative services, digital marketing, social media, website, mobile app, production, public relations, and audience engagement. This individual must possess both strategic vision and creative excellence, leading a high-performing team capable of delivering compelling campaigns across every physical and digital touchpoint.

This role requires a collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment, understands the operational rhythms of a large multi-campus church, and is passionate about using creativity and innovation to advance the Kingdom.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Executive Director of Marketing will be an strategic and creative leader with strong executive presence and exceptional organizational leadership. This individual will lead all branding, marketing, communications, creative, and digital initiatives while cultivating a culture of excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing, branding, and communications strategy that supports the overall vision, strategic priorities, and growth objectives of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
  • Lead the annual strategic marketing planning process, creating comprehensive campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, attendance, generosity, volunteerism, discipleship, and community impact.
  • Serve as the steward and champion of the Mount Zion brand by ensuring consistency in messaging, visual identity, storytelling, tone of voice, and guest experience across every ministry, campus, and communication platform.
  • Lead the creative vision and execution for all sermon series, conferences, ministry initiatives, campaigns, and special events, ensuring every initiative is supported by compelling creative assets, cohesive messaging, and measurable marketing objectives.
  • Develop innovative, social-first marketing strategies that leverage emerging trends, short-form video, storytelling, digital advertising, influencer partnerships, and platform-specific content to expand the church's reach and engage new audiences.
  • Provide strategic leadership for all digital platforms—including the website, mobile app, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, email marketing, livestream, and future digital channels—ensuring content is optimized for each platform while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Utilize analytics, audience insights, SEO, engagement metrics, and digital performance data to evaluate campaign effectiveness, optimize marketing initiatives, and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee production of all worship experiences, livestreams, pre-recorded content, and special events, including video, audio, lighting, stage presentation, and production workflows.
  • Increase the visibility and influence of Mount Zion ministries, programs, and initiatives by developing integrated campaigns that effectively reach members, first-time guests, community leaders, media partners, and audiences beyond the walls of the church.
  • Partner closely with executive leadership, ministry leaders, worship, production, and communications teams to translate organizational vision into creative strategies that drive measurable ministry outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain marketing policies, operational standards, project management systems, communication workflows, timelines, and performance metrics that ensure organizational excellence.
  • Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, agency partnerships, and external creative resources while ensuring stewardship and maximum return on investment.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a world-class creative and marketing team, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, accountability, ownership, and continuous professional growth.
  • Cultivate a culture where creativity flourishes through experimentation, curiosity, strategic thinking, and excellence while maintaining alignment with the mission and values of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in marketing, branding, communications, digital strategy, or creative leadership within a corporate, nonprofit, agency, or large ministry environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading integrated marketing strategies that produce measurable growth in engagement, audience development, brand awareness, and organizational impact.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing, content strategy, social media management, audience development, SEO, analytics, paid media, email marketing, and emerging digital platforms.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary creative teams including graphic designers, videographers, photographers, editors, copywriters, content creators, social media specialists, and production professionals.
  • Exceptional creative vision with the ability to balance innovation, storytelling, branding, and strategic execution across multiple communication channels.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing departmental budgets, forecasting, vendor negotiations, and performance measurement.
