Business Banking Credit Review Analyst JOB SUMMARY:

The Business Banking Credit Review Analyst supports Business Banking and Merchant Services growth by evaluating merchant credit card processing applications, assessing financial and operational risk, and making underwriting decisions that align with bank policies and regulatory requirements. This role partners with Business Banking, Sales, Risk, Operations, Compliance, and payment processors to ensure efficient merchant onboarding while balancing customer service, risk management, fraud prevention, and compliance.

Business Banking Credit Review Analyst ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (RESPONSIBILITIES):


• Reviews merchant processing applications, financial statements, bank statements, tax returns, ownership documentation, website content, processing history, and other supporting documentation to assess merchant risk and eligibility.


• Evaluates merchant businesses for creditworthiness, financial stability, processing capacity, fraud exposure, chargeback risk, and regulatory compliance.


• Makes underwriting decisions within established authority limits and prepares recommendations for escalated approvals when necessary.


• Analyzes merchant processing volumes, average ticket sizes, projected sales, industry classifications, and transaction patterns to identify potential risk factors.


• Reviews merchant reserve requirements, processing limits, funding arrangements, and account structures to mitigate risk exposure.


• Identifies potentially fraudulent activity, suspicious merchant behavior, money laundering concerns, or reputational risks and escalates findings appropriately.


• Collaborates with Business Banking Sales teams to obtain additional documentation and facilitate account approvals.


• Participates in ongoing portfolio monitoring activities, including reviews of exception reports, chargeback trends, excessive refund activity, and merchant performance metrics.

• Assists with policy development, workflow improvements, and enhancements to underwriting procedures and risk management practices.


• Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.


• Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.


Business Banking Credit Review Analyst REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Thorough knowledge in merchant acquiring, credit card processing, payment networks, and Merchant Services underwriting principles.

• Thorough knowledge of financial statement analysis, cash flow evaluation, credit risk assessment, and fraud detection.

• Thorough knowledge of PCI compliance requirements and regulatory banking standards preferred.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to analyze complex financial and operational information and make sound underwriting decisions.

• Ability to effectively prioritize workload and manage multiple applications simultaneously.

Equivalent Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field preferred.

• 2-4 years of experience in Merchant Services underwriting, credit underwriting, risk management, payments, banking, or a related financial services environment.

• Experience reviewing merchant processing applications and assessing payment processing risk strongly preferred.

• Experience with card payment networks, merchant acquiring platforms, and fraud prevention programs preferred.


Business Banking Credit Review Analyst SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:

Ability to work some weekends and longer hours, as determined by business needs.
