First Resources Corp. of Burlington is growing and we are searching for a dedicated full-time Health and Safety Assistant. The ideal candidate will assist with the overall function of residential services to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant environment for staff and individuals. You will also assist with training new staff at specific site locations and ensure all medications/refills are secured, aiding Site Supervisors.

Job Summary:
As a Health and Safety Assistant, you will assist with the overall function of residential services to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant environment for staff and individuals. You will also assist with training new staff at specific site locations and ensure all medications/refills are secured, aiding Site Supervisors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain consistent communication with Area Coordinator and Supervisors about client care, site condition, program needs, and collaborate with the team through meetings, appointments, and client-related concerns.
  • Provide clerical and training support to the residential department.
  • Advocate for individual rights and ensure health, safety, and welfare needs are met.
  • Complete documentation within 24 hours of services, including medication sheets, seizure logs, petty cash tracking sheets, incident reports, and shift checklists. Conduct random site inspections and report findings. Check medications, medication records, and personal care sheets for accuracy. Audit site medications to ensure proper documentation of medication administration.
  • Attend medical, psychiatric, and dental appointments with individuals, document each appointment, and provide transportation for these and other community trips.
  • Facilitate the ordering of medications/refills, ensure medical supplies are stocked, and communicate with the pharmacy about any changes or discrepancies.
  • Assist individuals in activities of daily living (ADLs), personal hygiene, laundry, housekeeping, and recreational activities.
  • Participate in the organization's safety program, including emergency evacuation and disaster procedures.
  • Fill in hours as needed, work a flexible schedule, and travel at least 25% of the time, including occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and events.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • At least two years of experience with Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) programs and Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) requirements specific to Adult Day Care services.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and computer-based programs.
  • Prior medical/nursing experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds without restrictions.
  • Successfully complete medication administration training and pass medications accordingly.
  • Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the initial 30 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Valid driver's license and personal auto insurance as required by the State of Iowa and be insurable under the company's insurance.
