A leading regional healthcare system in Maryland is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join an established cardiovascular surgery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an advanced practice provider looking for a stable, full-time assignment focused on high-acuity cardiac surgical care within a collaborative team environment.

Position Overview

The selected provider will work alongside experienced cardiothoracic surgeons and clinical staff, supporting patients throughout the surgical continuum of care. This role includes first assisting in the operating room, endoscopic vein harvesting, and perioperative patient management.

Providers will work as part of a collaborative surgical team and will not practice independently.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • First assist during cardiothoracic surgery procedures
  • Perform endoscopic vein harvesting
  • Pre-operative patient evaluation and management
  • Post-operative patient care and follow-up
  • Participate in the management of complex cardiac surgery patients
  • Collaborate with surgeons, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and ancillary departments
  • Support continuity of care throughout the cardiovascular surgical process
Schedule
  • Approximately five 10-hour shifts per week
  • Weekday coverage only
  • Start times generally between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM depending on surgical volume
  • End times vary based on case load
  • Approximately 50 hours per week
  • No call
  • No weekends
Required Qualifications
  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Active Maryland license at time of submission
  • Minimum of two years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience
  • Strong first assist experience in cardiac surgery
  • Endoscopic vein harvesting experience
  • Experience with Vasoview Hemopro 2
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification
  • DEA registration
  • CSR registration

The ideal provider is comfortable in a high-acuity surgical environment and has demonstrated experience assisting with advanced cardiac surgery procedures. Candidates should possess strong procedural skills, excellent clinical judgment, and a team-oriented approach to patient care.
