QUALIFICATIONS:ย

5.ย ย ย  Thirty hours of college, preferably, some health classes desired

To assist the building principal and the school nurse in conducting the school health program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.ย ย ย  Checks children with complaints:


























  • Takes temperatures.
  • Examines skin.
  • Observes conditions.
  • Contacts parent and/or nurse as appropriate.

2.ย ย ย  Reports by telephone serious accidents or unusual symptoms to the nurse and seeks direction as necessary.
3.ย ย ย  Receives, monitors or makes phone calls related to student absences.
4.ย ย ย  Carries out first-aid as per recommended procedures.ย  Remains with the student until he/she leaves the building if at the end of the school day.
5.ย ย ย  Keeps a record of all children seen and care given.ย ย ย 
6.ย ย ย  Prepares and distributes required school accident reports.
7.ย ย ย  Assists nurse in preparing materials and forms and carrying out special health programs.
8.ย ย ย  Assists nurse in identification of health concerns.
9.ย ย ย  Transcribes health data onto individual pupil cumulative health records.
10.ย  Assists nurse in collecting and recording health office statistics.
11.ย  Begins new Health Records and Cumulative Record Sheets for all pupils new to the school.
12.ย  Discusses activities, observations, and findings regularly with the school nurse.
13.ย  Keeps current files and health records.
14.ย  Follows up on delinquent physical, dental, vision, and hearing examinations and incomplete immunization information as directed by the school nurse.
15.ย  Assists in vision and hearing screening programs as directed by the school nurse.
16.ย  Types student health-related materials.
17.ย  Performs health procedures as instructed by parents and Certified School Nurse.
Procedures may include but are not limited to:
















  • Use of Epi-Pens.

18.ย  Respects the strict confidential nature of the position.
19.ย  Administers medication as instructed by Certified RN and as outlined in medication policy.
20.ย  Reports to DuPage County Health Department and documents communicable diseases.
21.ย  Performs head lice checks.
22.ย  Maintains health office inventory.
23.ย  Performs duties and assignments to assist the school office as needed and other related duties as assigned by the principal.
**SCHOOL OFFICE HEALTH ASSISTANT MAY NOT:
Offer diagnosis or medical opinions of any sort to pupils, parents, or District 44 personnel.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment determined by school calendar with compensation as established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated by the school principal in consultation with the school nurse.
