What is a fireplace?

A Fireplace job typically involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of fireplaces, including wood-burning, gas, and electric models. Professionals in this field may work with masonry, HVAC systems, and venting to ensure safe and efficient operation. They often inspect and clean chimneys, troubleshoot issues, and follow local building codes. Some roles may also involve designing custom fireplaces for homes and businesses.

What does a fireplace do?

A fireplace is a structure designed to contain a fire for heating and aesthetic purposes within a building. Traditionally, fireplaces burn wood, but modern versions may use gas or electricity. They provide warmth, create a cozy ambiance, and can serve as a focal point in a room. Fireplaces require proper installation and maintenance to ensure safety and efficiency. Some models also include features for cooking or heating water.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fireplace installer?

To thrive as a Fireplace Installer, you need expertise in carpentry, masonry, and HVAC systems, often backed by technical training or apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools such as power saws, levels, and venting systems, as well as relevant certifications like NFI (National Fireplace Institute), is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with clients and contractors set top installers apart. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant fireplace installations that satisfy customer needs and meet regulatory standards.

What are some common challenges fireplace installers and technicians face on the job, and how can they prepare for them?

Fireplace installers and technicians often encounter challenges such as working in confined spaces, dealing with outdated or non-standard building structures, and ensuring compliance with safety and building codes. Preparation includes staying current on local regulations, maintaining strong communication with homeowners and contractors, and developing problem-solving skills to address unexpected issues during installations or repairs. Working closely with a team and participating in ongoing training can help technicians adapt to new fireplace technologies and industry best practices.

Job description

Description

The Dixboro Project is a sprawling visionary concept in the historic village of Dixboro, Michigan. Our spaces invite you to experience the intersection of world-class dining, transformational hospitality, and abundant nature. The Dixboro House is the restaurant arm of this unique project - carved out of the bones of the original barn structure originally erected in 1880. The century old barn has been restored to feature exposed 140 year old timbers, a gambrel vaulted ceiling and the original stone fireplace, and modern kitchen providing a familiar comfort to our guests.

Our service is guided by our commitment to excellence. We are serious about our service - working with synchronicity to stage and deliver a consistently excellent experience for each guest that walks through our doors.

Our Hosts provide the first impression of The Dixboro House and set the tone for our signature hospitality that guests can expect during their experience. They anticipate the rhythm of the door, making seamless adjustments to maximize our ability to welcome and care for each guest. Clear communication, a composed presence, and a deep respect for hospitality culture are essential. Our ideal candidate has the potential to become a confident bookrunner with fluency in our reservation system, Tock, bringing energy and enthusiasm to a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Handle all guest interactions with the highest level of hospitality, warmth and professionalism.
  • Bring a personable and presentable appearance and demeanor to our front door.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of Tock and aim to create a steady flow of covers while maximizing our capacity. Accommodate and anticipate guest needs by making seating adjustments throughout the shift.
  • Possess a strong understanding of our restaurant operations as well as our food and beverage offerings.
  • Communicate the flow of the door with management and support staff.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Help ensure guest satisfaction, build relationships, and develop increased engagement.
  • Be a representative of The Pulpo Group and create a positive impression of the restaurant and all of our businesses.
  • Be the expert in guest satisfaction by providing soignee services including taking note of guest preferences, recommending activities to do in the area, parking details, and invitations to our other businesses.
  • Help maintain the pristine cleanliness and ambiance of the restaurant including organizing the host stand, and maintaining the foyer, restrooms and overall space.

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Preferred experience in providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a great team player to serve the team mission and each guest fully
  • Emotionally intelligent
  • Must have a good attitude towards change and ambiguity.
  • High level of personal hygiene and personal presentation
  • Able to stay calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail in everything we do
  • Unwilling to compromise on our standards or accept short cuts
  • Consistent in performance and reliability
  • Able to work in sync with the flow of the restaurant
  • Must have weekend availability

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
