Firefighter/EMT-Basic
Bastrop-Travis Counties ESD No. 1 has immediate openings for full-time Firefighter/EMT-Basic. BTCESD#1 covers Elgin, McDade, and a portion of Eastern Travis County.
Responsibilities:
Perform a wide variety of technical tasks and functions in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, rescue and hazardous material operations. The Full-Time Firefighter will be assigned to work a 48/96 schedule.
Essential Job Functions:
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
1. Work cooperatively with other BTCESD 1 employees, members, and the public.
2. Work at heights greater than ten (10) feet.
3. Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hose, carrying, and setting up ladders, and extinguishing fires.
4. Hazardous material response.
5. Communicate with customers, clients, or the public face-to-face, and/or one on one settings, email, and telephone.
6. Disaster assistance.
7. Tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing job duties.
8. Work for extended periods of time requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration.
9. Demonstrate acuity and ability to use sense of sight and hearing to help determine the nature of an emergency and make operational decisions.
10. Rescue persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other places.
11. Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
12. Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and scope of job-related duties.
13. Inspect equipment and supplies daily to ensure that all emergencies can be handled; restock supplies.
14. Learn job-related material through structured lecture and reading and through verbal instruction and observation.
15. Attend and complete all training as required.
16. Maintain required certification.
17. Ability to lift and carry 120 lbs.
18. Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of a Class โ€œBโ€ Texas driverโ€™s license or obtain within 6 months.
  • Must hold current certifications as an EMT-B or higher by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS).
  • Must hold current certifications as a Basic Firefighter by Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Must complete a written exam on Fire Fighting 101 and EMT
  • Must complete a Physical Ability Test
  • Must successfully complete a Background Check amp; Motor Vehicle Check
  • Have not been convicted of any Class A or B misdemeanors in the previous 7 years.
  • Have not been convicted of any felonies.
  • Must be willing to work 48-hours shifts (48/96)

  • Base salary for FF/EMT Basic - $57,703.38 with included overtime. A one-year probationary status does apply.
