- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with patients, family members, other medical personnel, coworkers, and the public.
- The Lieutenant is assigned to operations and is accountable to the Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief and Fire Chief following the chain of command.
- Responsible for establishing command at all incidents in accordance with policy and NIMS.
- Responsible for managing, properly inspecting, testing, cleaning and maintaining, apparatus, equipment, making minor repairs, and reporting repair needs to the Battalion Chief.
- Full compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations and laws, pertaining to but not limited to protocols, standards of care, motor vehicle operations, and patient rights, as well as all Bastrop-Travis Counties ESD No. 1 rules, policies, directives, and instructions from management.
- Responsible for knowing the most efficient routes to addresses within the district.
- Responsible for safety of crew and public always while on duty.
- Ensure the scene is free of any remaining hazards, equipment, or trash associated with the emergency response.
- Handle radio communications during emergency and non-emergency situations professionally.
- Coordinates with other emergency service agencies at fires, rescue operations, motor vehicle accidents and other emergency situations.
- Climbs ladders, uses self-contained breathing apparatus, and operates vehicle rescue equipment.
- Enter burning buildings as part of a fire suppression team, perform ventilation tasks, carry heavy objects and equipment and rescue injured or trapped victims.
- Manages fire stations, apparatus, equipment and PPE in a clean, orderly condition and in a state of readiness.
- Under medical direction render pre-hospital emergency care and triage according to established medical protocols while not exceeding the level of skill, training, and certification of the individual employee.
- Manage safe lifting and moving techniques of patients in and out of ambulances, residences and other locations.
- Receive inventories for the restocking of supplies.
- Enters inspection, training and fire incident reports into the records management systems.
- Manages the cleaning and disinfecting of the interior and exterior of the Emergency Vehicles.
- Manages the cleaning and maintenance of the station, equipment, office, lounge, and bathrooms.
- Maintaining a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and professional, pleasant, and polite demeanor to all people with whom the individual comes in contact while on duty.
- Responsible for correcting and reporting personnel problems appropriately to the Battalion Chief
- Prepare training activities and instruction sessions.
- Performs various public information or education tasks.
- Must be able to operate mobile devices, Fire/ EMS Software amp; Active 911.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Physical effort involves – for indefinite periods of time – mobility within an office and field environment; subject to infectious diseases, toxic waste, chemical, dust/mites, fume, odor, explosive, electrical and mechanical hazards; exposure to extreme cold, heat, temperature swings, constant noise and heights; working in trenches; walking; twisting body; standing; squatting; sitting; seeing; pushing; pulling; dragging, lifting and carrying a minimum of 200 pounds; climbing; crawling; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping.
- Stress may be encountered when working at a rescue scene, attempts to rescue victims, and managing very critical patients;
- Work schedule is typically a 48/96-hour shift.

- Demonstrate the attitude of a Health Care Professional to include, but not be limited to, maintaining a clean appearance, demonstrating courteous, professional, and ethical behavior, and demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other members of the EMS Health Care System.
- Lead training classes for the public on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), standard first aid and emergency medical techniques and participate in public health education.
- Think and act quickly in emergencies and judge situations and people accurately.
- Coordinate the work with all staff.
- Prepare and conduct fire-safety education classes.
- Learn and apply technical information pertaining to firefighting.
- Participate in training drills, attend classes on firefighting, first aid and CPR, fire equipment, apparatus, and other classes associated with firefighter standards.
- Work under extremely stressful situations, day and night, which result from fire and other emergencies, including the responsibility of remaining calm and completing assigned tasks.
- Work within a command structure requiring implementation of an Incident Action Plan and managing subordinates.
- Work cooperatively with superiors and peers to execute the overall mission of Bastrop-Travis Counties ESD No. 1.
- Direct, Read, comprehend, and follow simple oral and written instructions; and to understand and apply available guidelines to varied operational requirements
- Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
- Must be 21 years of age.
