Chesapeake Fire Protection is looking for an experienced Fire Sprinkler Design Manager to lead our design department and ensure high-quality, code-compliant, constructible fire sprinkler and suppression system designs. This is a leadership role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with a passion for developing people and improving processes.
What You'll Do
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of fire sprinkler designers.
  • Oversee designs for commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects.
  • Ensure designs meet NFPA standards, local codes, and project specifications.
  • Review and approve drawings, hydraulic calculations, and submittals.
  • Coordinate design needs with Project Managers and field teams.
  • Develop and maintain department standards, templates, and workflows.
  • Support permitting and respond to AHJ questions.
  • Assist with resource allocation, project planning, and departmental budgeting.
  • Lead design reviews, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participate in client meetings and represent the Design Department across the company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma; technical training or degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of fire sprinkler design experience.
  • 3+ years of design management or supervisory experience.
  • NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, hydraulics, and NFPA standards.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and fire protection design software.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • SprinkCAD, AutoCAD, or HydroCAD experience preferred.

The Job
  • Primarily computer-based design and management work.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
  • Regular use of hands for handling and computer work.
  • Occasional walking, reaching, and ladder climbing may be required.
