A fire lieutenant has a supervisory role in a fire department and ensures that firefighters are prepared for emergency situations. As a fire lieutenant, your job duties include conducting safety reviews and training, checking that all emergency and medical equipment is in working order, and performing fire safety demonstrations. You also respond to alarms as an officer. You typically report to the fire captain or chief and act as a shift supervisor in his or her absence.
