Job description

Job Summary:

Piper Fire Protection's Clearwater, FL branch is seeking a skilled Fire Sprinkler Inspector to perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of water-based fire protection systems. This role is heavily focused on sprinkler inspections and compliance with NFPA 25 standards, while also supporting inspection and testing activities related to fire alarm systems as needed.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience inspecting sprinkler systems and be comfortable performing fire alarm inspections when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA 25 and all applicable local, state, and federal codes; perform fire alarm inspections and testing as assigned.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and 5-year inspection frequencies on water-based fire protection systems
  • Inspect and test fire pumps (Electric & Diesel), comparing results to data plate or acceptance test
  • Perform water flow tests for fire hydrants, including determining flow rates at residual pressure at 20 PSI
  • Conduct inspections and testing of dry systems, pre-action & deluge systems, and standpipe flow tests
  • Conduct all duties related to inspection and testing of fire alarm systems, including sensitivity tests on smoke detectors, elevator recall, and functional testing of initiating devices and notification devices
  • Troubleshoot system issues and complete minor repairs on fire alarm and sprinkler equipment
  • Document and report inspection results to customers and office for compliance submissions
  • Communicate findings, system status, and recommended repairs to customers in a professional, courteous manner
  • Support senior inspectors and project teams on complex installations, retrofits, and service calls
  • Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, and parts inventory in company vehicle in clean, organized, and working condition
  • Safely perform work at elevated heights, on ladders and aerial lifts, and within confined spaces in compliance with OSHA standards
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and jobsite requirements while representing the company professionally at customer locations

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3+ years of hands-on fire sprinkler inspection experience required
  • Experience performing annual, quarterly, semi-annual, and 5-year sprinkler inspections
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 25 inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements
  • Experience inspecting wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, standpipe, fire pump, and backflow systems
  • Ability to conduct hydrant flow tests and fire pump testing
  • Ability to read and interpret riser diagrams, blueprints, and system drawings
  • Proficient with inspection software, mobile devices, and reporting tools
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including holding a valid driver's license and maintaining an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work at heights, and operate lifts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level I or II Certification in Water-Based Fire Protection Systems
  • FASA/BASA Certification
  • Fire alarm inspection experience
  • NICET Fire Alarm Certification
  • Experience performing annual fire alarm inspections and testing in accordance with NFPA 72
  • Experience with smoke sensitivity testing, elevator recall testing, and device functional testing
  • Experience with security, access control, CCTV, or other low-voltage systems
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
