Job description

Commercial Fire Alarm Service Technician

Building Electronic Controls, Inc. is seeking an experienced Commercial Fire Alarm Service Technician with current Edwards EST3 certification to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong troubleshooting skills and extensive experience servicing, programming, inspecting, and maintaining commercial fire alarm systems.

This position offers a company vehicle, gas card, paid training and manufacturer certifications, overtime opportunities, and a supportive team environment focused on delivering exceptional service to our customers.

Responsibilities

· Service, troubleshoot, inspect, and repair commercial fire alarm systems.

· Program, modify, and maintain fire alarm systems.

· Diagnose and resolve complex system issues with minimal supervision.

· Perform system testing and inspections in accordance with NFPA 72, applicable local fire codes, and AHJ requirements.

· Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.

· Complete detailed service reports, testing documentation, work orders, and service tickets for accurate record-keeping and invoicing.

· Identify and communicate customer service needs, system deficiencies, and potential upgrade opportunities to the Service Department.

· Communicate effectively with customers, inspectors, service coordinators, project managers, and internal departments.

· Train customers on the proper operation of fire alarm systems when required.

· Participate in the rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours emergency service support.

· Travel to customer locations throughout Southern California as required.

· Maintain company vehicle, tools, test equipment, and inventory in a clean and organized manner.

· Utilize company software, mobile devices, and service management applications to document work performed, complete reports, and communicate with dispatch.

Required Qualifications

· Current and verifiable Edwards EST3 certification.

· Minimum 5 years of commercial fire alarm installation, programming, troubleshooting, inspection, and service experience.

· Must be eligible for and willing to become a member of the IBEW.

· Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable local fire and life safety codes.

· Ability to read and interpret plans, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation.

· Knowledge of low-voltage wiring practices and electrical theory.

· Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and customer service skills.

· Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-conscious work environment.

· Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements while performing assigned work.

· Ability to pass a background screening and drug test (if required).

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Edwards EST4 systems.

· LAFD REG4 Certification

· NICET Fire Alarm Certification (Level II, III, or IV).

· Experience with additional fire alarm platforms including Notifier, Simplex, Siemens, Silent Knight, and similar systems.

· Experience working in occupied commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, educational campuses, and industrial sites.

· California Fire/Life Safety experience.
