POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the assigned Fire Chief and under the supervision of assigned Fire Captain, performs direct services, individually and as a member of a team in response to emergency calls and planned events to protect life, property and the environment; drives, operates, and maintains fire apparatus and equipment; performs specialized technical duties related to firefighting, rescue, hazardous materials response and administration of basic and advanced life support to the sick and injured; participates in fire prevention, community education, community wellness, training and facility maintenance activities, while maintaining a positive and professional attitude

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to and assists a wide variety of calls for service including but not limited to fires, rescue situations, hazardous materials incidents, medical emergencies, floods, natural and manmade disasters, elderly assists, police assists and motorist assists.
- Responds to emergency medical incidents; triages patients and determines appropriate medical care, provides basic and advanced life support (according to medical certification), and transports the sick and injured to definitive care.
- Identifies and implements appropriate tactics to evacuate occupants, rescue victims, and protects exposures: performs fire control and extinguishment, forcible entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul activities, raises and climbs ladders, connects, extends and operates hose lines, and performs other related duties as needed to protect life, property and the environment at fire, hazardous material, and rescue related incidents.
- Function within Draper City Policy and Department policy, EMS protocols, and SOGs.
- Drives department apparatus: operates fire pumps, aerial ladders and other fixed and loose tools and equipment. (Uses hydraulic theory and mathematics to calculate and provide correct pump pressure to ensure required water pressure at appliances; monitors operating systems and makes appropriate adjustments as required.)
- Conducts life safety inspections of commercial, residential, public assemblies and governmental buildings to ensure compliance with applicable life safety regulations, ordinances and standards.
- Provides community education and event support including station tours and education classes.
- Conducts daily inspection of condition and readiness of division apparatus and equipment; performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance of apparatus and equipment; cleans, washes and maintains apparatus and equipment; maintains the fire station and grounds; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and participates in periodic testing of ladders, fire hose, SCBA, pumps, and other apparatus and equipment.
- Manages crew PPE for cleaning and repair.
- Performs a variety of administrative duties including preparing reports and forms, conducting research, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Participates in city and department training; conducts departmental training sessions on topics related to job functions
- Attends various engineer committee meetings, when expected.

- Must satisfy the medical requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1582 and at all times maintain a fitness level that meets or exceeds the minimum standard of the department physical ability test.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education - High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience -
- Must meet all requirements and certifications of Firefighter II, Paramedic I, or Paramedic II
- 3 years' experience as a Firefighter I, Firefighter II, or Paramedic I with the Draper City Fire Department, or a comparable agency
- 40-60 hours of documented EMS training per NREMT criteria (Based upon EMS cert)
- 36 hours of documented Fire training
- Licenses and Certifications -
- Firefighter I or Firefighter II through the Utah Fire Service Certification System. Applicants for Firefighter I certification must be state certified through the Utah Fire Service Certification system at the Hazardous Materials Awareness Personnel Level and Hazardous Materials Basic Operations Level
- Must possess Apparatus Driver Operator - Pumper AND Aerial certification (IFSAC or PRO-Board).
- Current certification and licensure, at minimum, EMTB by the State of Utah Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS Certifications
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, Red Card Certification within one year of date of hire. Must maintain all previously required certifications (Current DFD members)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Tasks require a variety of physical activities such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required for most essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Response to emergency situations and participation in training activities. Involves considerable exposure to stressful situations, strenuous and moderately heavy physical activity; required to stand, walk, crawl or sit in uncomfortable positions for extended period of times; involves exposure to dangerous situations under disagreeable conditions such as a cold, wet, high temperatures, toxic fumes, smoke, excessive noise, hazardous materials, communicable diseases, vibration, heights, confined spaces, emergency driving, little to no sleep for extended periods, etc. May be subjected to lifting and dragging items of excessive weight. Unconventional working hours are required including nights, weekends, holidays, and shifts of up to 48 hours in length. Required to travel to different sites and stations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Platoon schedule (Schedule to be determined.)
- Salary range: $26.18- $33.12 per hour based on a 2912 schedule (Starting wage is dependent on experience.) A review of the current wages for market competitiveness will be conducted as part of the current FY27 Budget process, with any adjustments being approved in the adopted budget.
